Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Not to mention Bill Clinton. Which also reminds me of Anthony Weiner. Seems to me what Demos consider Trump's worst behavior is that, unlike other Republican Presidents or Presidential candidates, he responds to attacks by attacking back.
Which is why I decided to support Trump back in 2016. I was on my way to make this very comment when I saw yours.
Dems love beta males who sit quietly and act guilty when accused of misbehavior. Though I don't want Trump as a neighbor, I do not mind him responding in kind to the baseless attacks he receives. And as you both pointed out, if anyone is truly upset about Trump's comments about women then those people should be out tearing down JFK and LBJ statues. I can guarantee that both of them treated women worse in office than Trump has. Bill should be behind bars for what he did to Kathleen Willey, but hey, since he is Mr. Hillary he gets a pass on rape, right? Anybody here remember the Dems saying things like "hey as long as the economy is good, why should we think about impeaching Bill?" Don’t forget LBJ and while we are listing reprobate Democrats - Ted Kennedy
I'm sick to death of the ceaseless caterwauling -- even by people who ought to be supporting the president -- about his personality. It's as if Mr. Bring-A-Gun-to-a-Knife-Fight never happened.
Trump's poor behavior:
"Trump lies so reflexively on trivial matters". I don't see this. He exaggerates, he speaks off the cuff and uses generic numbers, but it seems to me that his biggest fault as a politician is that he is honest. "He calls the press the enemy of the people" The scary thing about this is that the author seems blissfully unaware of how much harm the press has caused our country. IMHO calling them the enemy of the people is charitable. Most of the complaints seemed to simply be more voicing of the rumors or complaints made by the never Trumpers. > You Can’t Celebrate Trump’s Policies And Ignore His Poor Behavior
We can and do. General Grant was a drunkard, but he fought and won. We don't need our heroes to be perfect. We just need them to be on our side. He says we can't, so that's it then, issue settled, right?
Like you, I can, I will, and I do. Open borders and free health care for illegal aliens. This is crazy. No country can survive open borders. As for free health care, imagine you are in a foreign country and get sick. You will pay for health care even though you are there legally. Optionally the foreign country will bill your native country for the care. Try it! Drive to Canada, beautiful friendly Canada and our favorite neighbor to the North and go to their health care facility and see what our best and closest friends will give you.
What we should do is tell all health care providers that in order to be reimbursed they need positive ID of the foreign national. In lieu of ID we will accept finger prints and front and side picture of their face. And then the U.S. government would bill the foreign national's home country and forward the payment to the hospital. If the home country is unwilling to pay we deduct it from their foreign aid. I would like to see those well organized masses of young Americans who come to the streets to claim sex neutral bathrooms--those same young people that demand the right to tear down our historical statues. Those masses of young people who are organized by the American Central Committee to demonstrate on behalf of abortion rights--I would like to see someone organize them into demonstrating en masse in support of the Hong Kong students who take their lives in their hands to protest Chinese take over. Do you think Kamala and Hillary, etc. would have the courage to get this organized?
Progressives (and never-Trumpers) engage in this hand-wringing and pearl-clutching over Trump's behavior because they are all about image over substance.
This is just the modern version of David Brooks: "I remember distinctly an image of–we were sitting on his couches, and I was looking at his pant leg and his perfectly creased pant, and I’m thinking, a) he’s going to be president and b) he’ll be a very good president." LOL what a putz. Trump amassed enough money and power early in life to have reached decades ago the crisis that confronts many successful politicians somewhat late: how to behave when you're put in charge of something large and important, surrounded by lackeys. I'd be happier if his life story were less tacky, and his politics more consistent over time, but he has settled on some personal and political principles I can live with.
Even if the Democrats could field a candidate with a shining character, I wouldn't follow him or her down a path to policy ruin--and anyway, the leftist candidates' personal qualities are not charming me at present. > You Can’t Celebrate Trump’s Policies And Ignore His Poor Behavior
post hoc ergo procter hoc Trump’s boorish behavior is exactly what has made him successful. It keeps his opponents off balance and distracted. Much like a bellicose trial lawyer in court. If DJT were as nice and polite as the NeverTrumpers wish, he would have been isolated and destroyed long ago. All Mr Trump needs to succeed with the naysayers is a proof-and context-reader to smooth his tweets into what will never again be called "the King's English". This will bring even the WaPo into line.
Salena Zito said this the best in 2016 before the election:
QUOTE: "It’s a familiar split. When he makes claims like this, the press takes him literally, but not seriously; his supporters take him seriously, but not literally." It's still true. So true. I would only make one change to make that statement more accurate. The press chooses to take him literally when they feel they can nitpick him in the hope that they can discredit him. They don't take him literally because they are too stupid to understand what he is saying. They take him literally because it serves their anti-Trump agenda.
"You Can’t Celebrate Trump’s Policies And Ignore His Poor Behavior" Yes we can!
We endured 8 years of Bush being called everything under the sun from a murderer of soldiers to a lap dog of big oil to a nazi to horrible slander of his children, to wishing someone would kill him. And Bush never replied nor let any others defend him, so what did we get for such forbearance ? Nothing. The Left started this fight and made the rules. We are in this game now and are winning and I'm not no ways tired. |
