We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

"Oppressive statue" When do the adults at that school tell those students to grow up or are there any adults there anymore?

The problem (with additional reference to the Quillette story on the Oberlin College fiasco) is that most college administrators are not grownups themselves. Campus staffs have become infested with adult children who live in an academic cocoon and are infatuated with progressive leftism, unable to tolerate the open exchange of ideas that is fundamental to the idea of the University. A challenge to ideas is met with outrage rather than a reasoned response and effective defense. With this kind of 'adult' leadership we end up with an infantilization of students and a tantrum-like approach to avoid any ideas that might challenge the belief system - a mantra of 'diversity' which in truth is the exact opposite.

Correct you are. college/progressives are emotionally stunted, (being offended is an emotional reaction) and driven by a sprit of juvenile emotional rebellion. In essence, they are an emotional hammer looking for an offending nail.

They get an emotional high (righteousness) by attacking some offending object or idea. They have nothing positive to contribute only negative destruction.

They didn't/couldn't verify the Steele "dossier" and they were warned that it was probably fake too. I'm starting to see a pattern forming.

This has been going on at colleges for a long time. The Duke lacrosse case was the first widely known but it wouldn't surprise me to find out it was going on before. Given that the absolute legal drubbing the prosecutor in the Duke case got (he was thrown in jail and the students were not declared "not guilty" but "innocent". The decision against Duke is sealed.) didn't dissuade Oberlin suggests to me that this going to continue.

Schools today support the further entitlement of our of our cry bully spawn so there is a little bit of satisfaction seeing the racist taunts aimed at Oberlin that at least given the Oberlin's history spelled out in there the column, is as ridiculous as most similar changes.

If it weren't so outrageous, maddening, and sad, it would be funny but we are talking about what our society will become so instead it's absolutely frightening.

Typically I am not a fan of the legal profession especially their actions in class action law suits. But I would say that in this case the Oberlin law suit will likely deter similar foolishness by colleges and other institutions. And that is one of the main purposes of law suits to set a precedent and deter similar improper actions.

I sadly agree with you...they need to make sure the administration, each and all involved, pay a good portion of the damages. At least enough to bankrupt their sorry asses.

Women have always understood the difference between those who are considered "plain" and those who are considered "pretty". It would be good to better understand this phenomenon and have the science community investigate it.

I spent 20 years in the military. You literally meet, work and get to know thousands of people, perhaps tens of thousands of them over 20 years. It was common for new enlistees from small cities or Podunk locations to have absolutely beautiful wives. And you would get to know them at functions and they were just regular women, not stuck on themselves. But over time, a few years it was common for them to divorce their "Podunk" husbands and "marry up". They obviously came to realize that they were pretty/beautiful. We used to jokingly refer to it as the "seen Paree syndrome"(from the song "How Ya Gonna Keep'em Down On The Farm").

The good news is that almost all of the guys this happened to were just regular guys, religious, non or light drinkers and hard workers and they all (that I knew) remarried women who while perhaps not as beautiful but were more like them and were happy and stayed together.
