We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Three species of Asian Carp have invaded the Mississippi watershed. They are destroying the native ecosystem but, like most invasive species, there is no way to get rid of them.
You can catch them. A 4 0 treble hook and some weight on a stiff rod. Someone should teach the homeless how to catch them.
Someone will tell you that they are too boney to eat. The trick is to cook them whole (clean them of course) and strip off the skin and scrape the meat out with a fork and eat it. I wouldn't say that they are "good" but they aren't bad and better than the no-name "whitefish" the supermarkets sell.
The state is reluctant to poison/electrify the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal to keep them out of the Great Lakes. Once they are in there, they will be everywhere east of the Mississippi. I'd use rotenone every week.
