Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Regarding Toxic Masculinity and Gillette: Why does no one talk about toxic feminity? Girls and women can be cruel to each other as they destroy lives, emotions, self esteems for no good reason. Any parent with a daughter in high school has witnessed this. For all the talk they spew about “girl power”, deep down many seem to hate other women. And, men are often their targets as well.
You called it as it is! Women are way more hurtful to other women--especially those born naturally pretty!
Watched the video. Noticed immediately that all the bad guys in the video were white guys and the ones correcting them were not white.
I get that some white men are evil (looking at you Ted Bundy). And certainly some non whites are great people (love ya, Thomas Sowell!). I agree completely that men shouldn't bully anyone or tolerate it. I agree completely that men shouldn't harass anyone or tolerate it. One of my problems with the video was that very little of what I saw there was blatant discrimination or bullying (other than the kid getting beaten up in public by the mob). One instance was a boss in a meeting who lightly touched a female on the shoulder. How is that harassment? Another was an actor on a movie set pretending to ogle and grab a woman's backside. In real life that is immature and certainly could be harassment. But if anyone needs to be told this, he probably won't listen to you, me or Gillette. Boys do push boundaries. If you have raised one, you know that. Boys sometimes go too far. When they do, they should be corrected. If you REALLY wanted to impact society with a message, tell ALL men in America to be a father to kids that they have created. Nothing would go further to wipe out bullying that having good father figures in each home to ensure that young men get the right message about being strong without being abusive. But that wouldn't be politically correct, would it? toxic feminity: 61 million babies killed in the U.S> since Roe vs Wade. No THAT is toxic.
"Should fat shaming be a hate crime"
"Free Speech Is Dead in Canada" These two things are related. This is the intent of special interest groups to acquire a special status and receive special treatment. They are succeeding and will continue to succeed until we have a supreme court that puts the constitution first. There should be no "affirmative action. no hate speech, no forced baking of cakes, no usurpation of our bill of rights. Everyone should be treated equally, no one should be treated differently under the law. re Brexit and the border problem that isn’t

QUOTE: The temptation will be to blame their troubles on mismanagement. The real lesson is starker. It is that no business, no matter how historically innovative or powerful, is guaranteed immortality. Oh Puh-leeze. He's a seasoned journalist making a remarkably obtuse comment. Please provide us with a list of corporate executives who believe their businesses are guaranteed immortality. Of course the demise of both Sears and GE was due to execrably bad management choices, made by overweening egos in the face of profoundly changing markets. Sear's board just approved a multi-million dollar package of executive bonuses as the the corporation closes stores and liquidates of properties to fund them. Jeff Immelt flies two jets for single trips just in case he happens to prefer one over the other, depending on whim. It's sad to see them finally collapse, but it was sadder back when it was obvious they were headed for disaster and their executive management refused to take action on the obvious - preferring instead to build their personal brands and line their pockets. It continues because boards refuse to hold executive management accountable for their performance with direct reward and punishment. Real leaders wouldn't have it any other way. The company I work for just purchased an industrial business from the fire sale. Good potential for the remaining employees, as well as filling an important spot in our product line.

David Brooks: It is only right to pay more in taxes than you owe. Clearly, he's an NYT columnist. The collusion meme between Trump and Putin is going to end with a whimper and not a bang. Even the harpies at The View know it. Looking forward to the next few years of Trump tweeting "Told ya so".
