Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Ref: excess security
I recently was chatting with a high school senior at the same school I graduated from 50 years earlier. She was describing major security update project and the 'updates' being implemented. The town is not much changed. But when I went there we did not have locked doors. No ID cards, no security guards or cameras or any police presence (once a year or so a cop would show up to give us a safety lecture). Occasional student squabbles were easily handled by the teachers. There were no metal detectors (It was not uncommon to carry a pocket knife, no one really objected). What the hell has happened in those years? I think a lot of it is a lack of common sense - an inistence that rules can and must replace the initiative of the teacher, and that the teacher cannot discipline the child without fear of a lawsuit from offended parents who haven't bothered to raise their child... but are depending on the schools to do so.
That last bit is a real problem, from a friend who's a teacher. The kids WILL emulate what their home life is like in the classroom, not the other way around. For the first time in several years, my wife and I just recently walked portions of our neighborhood we don't normally see (because they are beyond us on our driving route home). This is an area of essentially upper-middle class, professional homes. (We live in a more modest area of the neighborhood.) Most of these homes previously had large open yards to the street when we used to walk the area. Now, almost all of them have large fences or walls built around them, and security gates with cameras.
The other big change is the new church we have been attending for about six months (which meets at the local YWCA). The church now has a uniformed and armed off-duty police officer standing in the lobby area near the entrance. I don't know whether it is because of direct threats or just the changed atmosphere everywhere. QUOTE: Two-Tiered Justice: Mike Flynn and Tony Podesta Did Same Work for Turkey, Both Filed Retroactively. Flynn’s Life Is in Tatters As Podesta Walks Free Tony Podesta is facing a criminal inquiry by the Southern District of New York. This is a classic deep state trick. Because he is being investigated no one can talk about it and everything about the case remains dark. Slowly time ticks on and eventually after the limit of the time that they have to charge him the case will be silently dropped for lack of proof.
I am opposed to government in the shadows. I think everything should be in the sunlight. No secrets except where secrecy is essential for national security reasons. Everything prosecutors and police do should be made public in a timely manner (which in most cases means within 24 hours). Secrecy is the enemy of democracy. GoneWithTheWind: This is a classic deep state trick.
Or not. GoneWithTheWind: Because he is being investigated no one can talk about it and everything about the case remains dark. Investigations are typically conducted without public notice outside of court. That protects the investigation and protects the subjects of the investigation. GoneWithTheWind: I am opposed to government in the shadows. I think everything should be in the sunlight. That would undermine many investigations which rely upon secrecy. It would mean no undercover work. It would mean witnesses could more easily coordinate their testimonies. It would mean that law enforcement couldn't withhold telling information about a crime in order to test the validity of witness testimony. It would mean witnesses may be reluctant to come forward. GoneWithTheWind: Secrecy is the enemy of democracy. Not every suspicion of the police need be made public. It may expose the innocent unnecessarily, and inhibit the police who would be held responsible for such exposure. Except when democratic/progressive/socialist/communists do the "investigation" of political opponents.
Haven't read about any leaks surrounding this case.
Funny that...

Who knew the career investigators with the Department of Justice Southern District of New York were communists?! The top leadership was appointed by the Trump Administration.

You've never heard of the administrative state? The administrative state is filled with the people I described above. They leak anything and everything required to protect their own asses and jobs.

Sure, but that doesn't make them communists by any stretch of the term. indyjonesouthere: They leak anything and everything required to protect their own asses and jobs. Leaking can cost someone their job. You didn't mention any specifics, but just waved your hands in the general direction. Did you have such a specific?

Digest an article by sundance of the Last Refuge dated December 15th. DOJ inadvertently highlights SSCI corruption. Both Wolfe and his "concubine" should be doing very long sentences. They will do next to none along with Sen. Warner.

This is presumably the article in question. The article doesn't seem to indicate a leak from the SDNY, but from Congress, and included a number of unsubstantiated allegations. Was there something in there about communist infiltration of the SDNY?

RE Venezuela update
Sounds like Hell on Earth. Even with a good government, can Venezuela ever be brought back to where it once was? One wonders if the rule of law can ever be re-established there? I am beginning to believe that the greater conflict out there is that between people of the Christan faith (Melania Trump) and those who believe in nothing but themselves. To me it has been clear from the beginning that Melania projects a Christian based delicate nature that invites attack. Rather than the feminist media extending to her a gracious tolerance of her core being--they have attached her because of a perceived weakness.
Re: Podesta
Both of the Pedestal brothers are mafia. Plain and simple. After leaving political life Podesta was given a wonderful salary for being a professor at a grade D small town college. Of course, that college happened to be in Monterey California which is a great coastal village in which to live upon tax payer's money being paid for a pretend job. faculty wife: Both of the Pedestal brothers are mafia. Have no idea why you think being a professor is some sort of mafia job. Which college? Which Podesta? Are you thinking of Leon Panetta? He was born in Monterey and was a professor of public policy at Santa Clara University in Monterey. Santa Clara University, School of Law, Panetta Plaza
Re border crossing in Antelope Wells, NM.
I grew up in NM and there are no antelope or wells there. I have been there and it's nothing but desert. It is quite literally in the middle of nowhere. http://www.nmborder.com/Maps.aspx RE: First Americans. Doubt we have any idea at this point. Probably happened earlier than anyone knows and the answer won't likely be found in genetics. Old populations likely to have been wiped out by disease brought by subsequent migrations.
One thing that'e becoming apparent is that the Clovis Culture that had been all the rage with people who like to draw huge conclusions from limited evidence, is turning out to be more a footnote than the be-all end-all of early American migration. They weren't the first, had success for a couple thousand years, then disappeared completely. QUOTE: "The FBI's reputation has as taken a big hit because the president of the United States, ...
