Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Sunday, October 7. 2018Mrs. BD insistsShe is a recovering liberal but no right-wing nutjob and she offers Maggie's links very occasionally (many people send in links for my morning offerings), but she wants our readers to read this. She has always seen Mitch as a shrewd gamer despite his RINO slurs. He picks his fights, like any good parent. Winners and Losers of the Kavanaugh Confirmation This is how nice moderate/lefty Moms of America are turned to the conservatives. Trackbacks

I didn't think anyone could have convinced me that Flake made the right decision, but Nolte makes a persuasive case. Whether he actually got snookered by Coons and just got lucky that the FBI report really did turn public opinion or whether Flake read the mood of the country more accurately than the rest of us, the fact remains that waiting a week did help. Conservatives can argue until they are blue in the face that it should not have mattered and it's not fair, because the (lack of) evidence was clear, but in the end, it did matter. The American people in general, and Susan Collins in particular, were swayed by that.
The Republicans kept claiming "stall tactics," and I certainly was convinced of that long before this week. But maybe it took playing it out in real time in front of those who only half pay attention, for it to be manifest that "Hey, yeah, it does seem like the Democrats aren't happy no matter what." I also hadn't heard that Fox had bailed on Kavanaugh, as I don't have a TV. Is that so, or was it just a few isolates? I'm willing to give Flake credit. Sure, he took some risk but there was none for him, politically, either way and following the Thursday hearings with Ford and Kavanaugh the mood shift in favor of BK was obvious. It was a good calculation that a favorable FBI report would embolden Flake and Senator Collins to Kavanaugh's side.
Fox has been getting squishier and squishier over the last year, to the point where I don't pay very close attention to their nightly news broadcast. But every time I tuned in briefly, about the best you could say is that they were damning Kavanaugh with faint praise. If you watched any TV reporting at all you could be forgiven for concluding that Ford had accused Kavanaugh of rape. They sure weren't trying to clarify anything.

I hope the have been turned, but we'll have to see. Welcome to the not extreme Conservative side Mrs. BD. it's been lonely over here for quite awhile !! Women like us need to get active. We can either join the R party and attempt to bring it closer to center, or we can help Independents in our own states to become winning candidates. Most importantly we have to be able to get to the young people on campus. Give that some thought. The only way to protect this country is to move forward in a unified way as the Dems have been doing for 30 years. We can no longer step back when we are called names, we can no longer feel ashamed to challenge a woman who is wrong or corrupt because, you know, she's a woman and we must all support every female on the left side. NOPE no more silence. We have to be able o recover our daughters from the indoctrination of the Feminist mob and that will be hard because it started in Kindergarten. Like I said, WELCOME!
IMHO this isn't over and not even close. The left in America has turned into fascists. Watch the early questioning of Kavanaugh by Democrat senators. It was insane statements and actions over and over again. This became worse over time and grew to include the press, the elite, and mobs of crazed people. It was the intended to intimidate and bully anyone on the right not just congress and Kavanaugh. It was a warning loud and clear to any honest person nominated by a Republican president in the future that you will be destroyed and publicly humiliated. You will be harassed at home, in public and you and your family will be threatened. This is what fascist do. What's next, kristallnacht?
Dealt w/Mitch when he was Mayor of Louisville in the 70s. Found him to be wishy-washy and definitely not to be trusted. Have had no reason to change my assessment since.
In 2004 newly minted xtraconservative Cocaine Mitch deep-sixed Bush's meager efforts at spending reform.
Recently, he blamed rightists for waiting so long to demand he grow a moral spine and shove his ways and means favorably toward Kavanaugh. Good read, thanks for the recommendation. I lost a lot of sleep over the last couple of weeks over all of this, I can't imagine how awful it was for the Kavanaugh family. It seemed like it would never end and I had no faith in our Republican senators to make things right. Thankfully I was wrong. I prayed unceasingly too, we came very close to losing one of the most important fights of my lifetime. I hope we all learned a lesson from this, the devil is alive and well in DC. Speaking of the devil, why isn't anyone making any noise about Soros? All this time and money wasted on the Russian investigation...
Given the behavior of the FBI during the last two years in their collaborative effort to create a coup d'etat the American people no longer trust the FBI. I think it was a brilliant move to give the FBI a chance to "look good". The mafia is yelling that they didn't do a complete investigation--my thought: they were never intended to--but they did reprieve themselves a little.
My wife is a relatively un-political conservative (complains about our tax bill, rarely watches the news). She was appalled by this naked smear and character assassination and is fired up to vote Republican next month.
Probably helps that she has a husband and son who could be similarly victimized. This is how conservatives are made. I went from red diaper to conservative largely thanks to a smear campaign launched against me in the 80s for opposing "comprehensive" k-12 sex education in Virginia. Those pushing this c**p couldn't tar me with the usual right wing religious nut brush because I had been involved in the nuclear freeze campaign with many of them earlier - and I was not religious. So they spread rumors of various kinds and attacked me in public venues. One man stood up at city council and said I was not worth the rope to hang me with! They attacked my kids and I had to remove them from the school system. Many parents and teachers agreed with me but were afraid to take a public stand.
It was eye-opening. The left can never win on the merits; all they have is ad hominem. Mrs BD isn't alone. I think the Dems are in for a surprise in November. https://www.ruthfullyyours.com/2018/10/02/dems-risk-losing-suburban-women-with-kavanaugh-attacks-by-julie-kelly/
I feel violated and threatened by the Dems support of mob rule and their attack on the presumption of innocence and due process. I will vote accordingly.
