Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Kavanaugh debacle:
There was a genuinely humorous episode during the last 10 days; the clown show over the yearbooks. Who was that silly ass anyway? Way to go Rhode Island. I was surprised that SNL didn't parody that. "Breaking the immigration impasse...compromise...."
Please, not another immigration compromise. Only one group is actually compromising. The Seven Amnesties Passed by Congress 1. Immigration and Reform Control Act (IRCA), 1986: A blanket amnesty for some 2.7 million illegal aliens 2. Section 245(i) Amnesty, 1994: A temporary rolling amnesty for 578,000 illegal aliens 3. Section 245(i) Extension Amnesty, 1997: An extension of the rolling amnesty created in 1994 4. Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act (NACARA) Amnesty, 1997: An amnesty for close to one million illegal aliens from Central America 5. Haitian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act Amnesty (HRIFA), 1998: An amnesty for 125,000 illegal aliens from Haiti 6. Late Amnesty, 2000: An amnesty for some illegal aliens who claim they should have been amnestied under the 1986 IRCA amnesty, an estimated 400,000 illegal aliens 7. LIFE Act Amnesty, 2000: A reinstatement of the rolling Section 245(i) amnesty, an estimated 900,000 illegal aliens https://www.numbersusa.com/content/learn/illegal-immigration/seven-amnesties-passed-congress.html China infiltration: Don’t forget Senator Feinstein! There might be other Congress critters that have been infiltrated. We just don’t know. Odds are it would be a democrat, for obvious reasons.
We does she still have a security clearance, shouldn't there by an in depth investigation?
#metoo was designed to be used to take out conservatives; talk show hosts, cable news commentators, and politicians. Sure it got some liberals too, but that was OK as long as it took out those inconvenient prominent conservatives. It was then used/abused to try to bring down Kavanaugh. It should have worked, the abuse Kavanaugh endured was more than most nominees would have withstood. It should have been a warning to anyone who might consider accepting a nomination. Kavanaugh should have dropped out to protect his children and his wife and of course to salvage his good name. But he has guts, determination and a sense of right and wrong and he is still there. Good for him. But he has paid and will in the future pay a terrible price. At this point the Democrats scare me. What won't they do to get power. They have allied themselves with George Soros and various communist groups in their lust for power, where does their allegiance lay?
Their allegiance lays to their party, and to the power it can accrue for them.
They're the sort of people who'd volunteer for a HOA board, then go around fining people because the shade of paint on their house is a bit too sun-faded, or their grass is two-three millimeters higher than allowed. They LIKE forcing people to do what they wish - the more whimsical their demands the better because they can justify it as 'being good for all'. They do love full control with all the arrogance of a slick willie at the mustang ranch.
It has long been apparent: lefties have an uncontrolled control impulse.
OneGuy: They have allied themselves with George Soros and various communist groups in their lust for power, where does their allegiance lay?
Because every good conspiracy theory has to have a Jew at its root. He is a Jew by blood only and not a practicing religious Jew. You could as well accuse him of white privilege.
Bad people are just bad people. I don't care if they are jew, christian or muslim. Soros is a very bad person.
Out defending your boss today, heh?
Do you guys\gals, have a satisfaction survey? I'm not very satisfied with the job you are doing lately. I would like to complain to your manager. Yeah, he was so Jewish that he turned in real Jews to his Nazi overlords for profit.
indyjonesouthere: He is a Jew by blood only and not a practicing religious Jew.
That's never mattered to conspiracy theorists. MissT: Soros is a very bad person. Why is he a "bad person". Soros' Open Society helped build democratic institutions in eastern Europe before and after the fall of Soviet communism. Dangerous Dean: Yeah, he was so Jewish that he turned in real Jews to his Nazi overlords for profit. Zombie lie. Re: Bret Stephens. I think millions of people tumbled to the conclusion that this kind of witch hunt could be perpetrated on anyone, you, your family members, your neighbors.... Once these kind of things hit the media, all kinds of people crawl out from the shadows and pile on, maybe some are legit, maybe not. Of course, most of us remember the false allegations (remember Tawana Brawley et al), hoaxes, false flags over the last decades; our so called moral superiors should have proceeded with caution.
We are always being hectored and lectured that only a small percent of allegations are false. I think this is a known unknown. Maybe AVI could weigh in on the Methodology. Most false claims of sexual assault fall apart within hours. The woman is interviewed perhaps in the hospital or while still drunk and the police quickly point out the discrepancies in her story and how it is illegal to make false police reports and thus she quickly sobers up and gives the real story. The police close the case with little to no report on it and zero repercussions to the false accuser. These false reports do not get counted in the statistics simply because the police don't make a big deal about it and they let the woman off the hook.
Many claims have some truth to them. They may not have been sexual assaults but the two were involved in a sexual relationship and for whatever reason the woman got mad at the man and needed revenge. How then with these complicated facts do you deny a he said; she said accusation? But even these often fall apart because of witnesses or communications by the woman which contradict the claim made in anger. Most of these claims too get tossed aside with no charges made for false accusations. The man is happy to just be off the hook and the authorities are somewhat sympathetic to the woman who may be mentally ill or otherwise sympathetic. Let's face it women usually get a pass when they step over the line or break minor laws. So what is the percentage of false claims? Some estimates are 57%, in other words more than half of all claims. Anon: So what is the percentage of false claims? Some estimates are 57%, in other words more than half of all claims.
Most studies put the number of false sexual accusations at 2-10%. However, the statistics have a high degree of uncertainty. In your example, the sexual assault may be real, but difficult to prove, and police have traditionally not been sympathetic to such claims. Also, police often conflate uncorroborated with false when reporting statistics. In addition, most sexual assaults are never reported at all. Many women are now telling their stories about why they didn't report their assaults. Even when they do, their complaints often fall on deaf ears. After 10-year rape kit delay, man charged with raping, kidnapping teen in Seattle What are the statistics on father suicides, Gasbot? You know, among the hundreds of thousands of guys who've been destroyed without due process or recourse by "social services", local DA offices, and the courts at the behest of rapacious, perjuring mothers?
Off to Google you go. Telling stories and telling the truth are not the same thing.
indyjonesouthere: Telling stories and telling the truth are not the same thing.
It's a simple fact that when women have been harassed or assaulted, there is little to be gained by reporting the behavior. Only recently, with the advent of the MeToo movement have women been finding their voices. It took a lot to bring down Weinstein. But, you know, everyone knows that the the 14 y.o. girl was just being hysterical.

Hillary would be happy to step in and defend the smuck...and then laugh about it latter. Women harass and assault men and rarely is it ever reported anywhere.

Everyone has to right to a legal defence. Perhaps you live in a country where people don't have that right. indyjonesouthere: Women harass and assault men and rarely is it ever reported anywhere. It happens, but at a far lower rate than men harassing women. However, women should be held to account as well, and the #MeToo movement includes many people who have been abused or harassed by women.

As someone else has noted: the false claims do the most damage to the legitimately abused by casting a cloud over their claims.
I've convinced myself that the Democrat's intent with the CBF accusations was to drive Kavanaugh to withdraw - in order to protect his character and his family. When he and Trump refused the Dems should have let the CBF thing play out, instead they trotted out two more, less reliable, accusers. These new folks had the effect, because they offered worse charges that were even less credulous, of undermining Ford's. Now we see that all this Democrat maneuvering may have energized the GOP base, particularly among women. Brilliant. Lindsey Graham's "Let's dunk him in the water and see if he floats" retort was brilliant. More and more eyes are being opened.

Perhaps, but Ford's motivation was probably sincere. In item on Trump triangulation play;

"All of our opinions are freely given" ruse in 3, 2, 1...
Can't you at least find a different graph? This one is just no good. There are just to many factors that it leaves out. For instance the high numbers of those abandoning the job market, under Obumer.
I really need to speak to your manager. You seem to be slacking off more than usual. Just going through the motions. A lackluster job performance. Our Gasbot is reposting the same refuted crap it posted back when it was first refuted as crap.
When it comes to wage plantations, is Soros like Bezos? Who pays you, Gasbot? Reprogramming the borg bot is expensive and time consuming and the payoff is less than originally hoped.
I think we could overload its transistors. To many comments to respond to, could cause a thermal overload. A meltdown. To bad we would not be able to see the smoke coming out of the building, I think they are in the Netherlands.

B. Hammer: Can't you at least find a different graph? This one is just no good.
The original topic was "jobless claims", so the graph is relevant and appropriate. That's called being "on-topic". It's not "no good", but as with all such relationship graphs, only shows part of the picture. B. Hammer: For instance the high numbers of those abandoning the job market The drop in labor force participation rate began dropping in 2000, well before Obama took office. Most economists point to structural causes to explain most of the drop, including the aging population and the longer time the young spend in school. However, the recession contributed to the decline. However, labor force participation stabilized in 2015, during the latter part of Obama's term, and is roughly the same today. We've been through this before. Obama had the Fed doing everything to prop up the economy - ultra low interest rates and ultra high balance sheet. Those trends are reversing. Interest rates are rising and the balance sheet is being reduced - both of which are headwinds to the economy and yet the unemployment rate continues to fall. What else has changed since Trump took over? Why, Trump reversed most of Obama's policies, that's what! The "continuation" of that trend don't have anything to do with Obama.
mudbug: Obama had the Fed doing everything to prop up the economy - ultra low interest rates and ultra high balance sheet.
The president does not control the Fed. Because Congress was not willing to add additional fiscal stimulus, the Fed believed that monetary stimulus would be prudent. It apparently worked, as you yourself point out. mudbug: Those trends are reversing. Interest rates are rising and the balance sheet is being reduced - both of which are headwinds to the economy Actually, the Fed's balance sheet has not been substantially reduced. mudbug: and yet the unemployment rate continues to fall. That's the expected result. It's rather the whole point of countercyclical policy. Unfortunately, the Trump Administration is procyclical on fiscal policy, meaning deficits are ballooning. If there is an economic shock, the the U.S. will be ill-prepared to respond. Excellent interview with Jordan Peterson
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AscPHmLWo-M QUOTE: New York Times finally admits how Obama screwed up the economy in 2016 The article contradicts itself. The mini-recession was due to factors external to the U.S., and "the end of the mini-recession in the spring of 2016 created a capital spending rebound that began in mid-2016." After the severity of yesterday's beclowning I'm surprised you're back, Gasbot. Who pays you, anyway?

Repeat from Thursday links:
QUOTE: Collusion bombshell: DNC lawyers met with FBI on Russia allegations before surveillance warrant Of course they did. They were known to be have commissioned the opposition research through Fusion GPS. QUOTE: It means the FBI had good reason to suspect the dossier was connected to the DNC’s main law firm and was the product of a Democratic opposition-research effort to defeat Trump — yet failed to disclose that information to the FISA court in October 2016, when the bureau applied for a FISA warrant to surveil Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. That is incorrect. The purpose of the dossier was disclosed. “The FBI speculates that the identified US person was likely looking for information that could be used to discredit Candidate #1’s {Trump's} campaign." Protip: Don't start tapdancing this early in the day if you aim to last the afternoon, Gasbot.
You left out how the Republicans start it! Oh wait, that got nuked yesterday.
I think you need a team meeting. QUOTE: Women Who Actually Know Kavanaugh Share Why They #StandWithBrett Well, except for Renate Schroeder Dolphin, who withdrew her endorsement. Last night while dreaming I was visited by the ghost of Thomas Jefferson. He sadly lamented to me his regret at not including the "Withdrawn Endorsement of an Obscure High School Classmate" clause in the Constitution. I tried to buck him up with the tale of Hillary's collapsing like a sack of rotten gizards on 9/11/2016, but woke up before finishing. It was really sad.
Bill Carson: Withdrawn Endorsement of an Obscure High School Classmate
We're not the one who brought up the list of obscure female supporters. In this case, Renate is not entirely obscure as Kavanaugh made the point of mentioning her in his yearbook entry. Damn. I try to read the comments to BD's morning links post before Z shows up and wrecks the threads, but today I'm running late (hornet sting on my pre-breakfast rounds laid me low). Oh well.
We need NO immigration compromises...All the illegals must be deported. They show no respect for American law and have no intention of respecting American culture. They are invaders and not immigrants.
I don't think many people imagine Trump is personally creating economic growth. They know it's businesses that do that. What he deserves credit for is taking some foolish brakes off the economy. Obama could have done the same, but chose not to, because for him the brakes were more important than the prosperity. To put that less contentiously, he thought too high a social price would be paid for the prosperity he was suppressing. Voters disagreed, exhibiting sharply different priorities.
The ACLU "serves different masters now" and no longer is primarily about civil rights? Most of us figured that out shortly after 9/11. I had already lost all faith in the D party by that time, but it took me longer to see what was going on with the ACLU, and it was a lot more disappointing.
