We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Environmentalism: New Vitality for the Socialist Agenda

Dr. Sanity said this better than we have or can - but she is right. Rush has been saying this for years, but I have finally come around to being persuaded.

The basic issue for these radical environmentalists is not to end global warming--it is to discredit capitalism and to use global warming and other environmental concerns as a justification to impose their ideological and political agenda. They haven't a clue how to really counter the natural cooling and warming trends of the planet--but if they blame it on human beings, then the solution is to control people.

Global warming is a scientific issue. I can be convinced that the earth is getting warmer, but it will take more than slogans and hysteria to convince me that the warming is something other than a natural cycle in our planet's history that may have some repercussions on human life.

efforts of local planning boards to institute
"traffic calming" among others ways to "get people out of their cars" and promote urbanism,actually INCREASE and aggravate pollution problems.

there does seem to be a real, scolding" nanny-state" factor to a lot of it.

just like the dependency on oil will be resolved
when a better,more attractive
(and likely a technical,not a political) solution
is developed or found,
so will people's desire to live in urban areas increase when they are...surprise...*more attractive*.

you'd think there was a conspiracy
to keep this secret somehow.

The best thing I read describing Ecoweeenies and the Greens specifically was comment at The Gates of Vienna - "they're Watermelons" - green on the outside, and red on the inside.
