Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Worry about the coming Ice Age

Technically-speaking, we are still in an Ice Age (Ice Ages are when there is ice on the poles), so let's worry about the next glacial incursion: The Next Ice Age

Not to worry. A Maunder Minimum-type event would decrease global mean temperatures about ¼°C. Anthropogenic global warming is expected to be in the range of 2-4°C per doubling of CO2, swamping any cooling effect.

The next glacial period had been expected in the next thousand years or so, but due to anthropogenic greenhouse gases, has been postponed for at least 100,000 years.

Personally, I LIKE well-aged ice in my drinks.

Of course, the effect of a cometary impact or super-volcano is not accounted for in this study.
