We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
EDS, "Excessive Daytime Sleepiness", has become a thing, a real symptom.
I've been reading up on the topic. Supposedly EDS is a contributory cause for 20% of auto accidents. The list of causes of EDS is lengthy. It includes, of course, Obstructive Sleep Apnea which can reduce sleep efficiency.
In my view, EDS can often be easily dealt with with a brief power nap. I suspect many hard-working people do it but it's difficult to do in a public work space.
I can't speak for everyone on this but having just reached 75 YO I do now understand older people napping during the day. I go to bed at 10PM and wake up maybe at 12, maybe at 2AM if I'm lucky as late as 4AM. And I lie awake until I decide to get up. So I average 4-5 hours of sleep a night. After dinner I sit down to watch Right Wing News and between the 5PM news and 8PM when something finally comes on that is worth watching I nap. Not always but usually. Sometimes I nap just before my 10PM bedtime. Then I repeat the cycle. It's not that I sleep more now, in fact I sleep less and that is the problem.
my doctor recently asked me if i take naps during the day and i told him that i tried but it seemed like every time i would fall asleep the light would turn green and the car behind me would start to honk.
