We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Excellent summary of modern ecological thinking


The article begins by discussing the transformation of NYC's Fresh Kills landfill (dump) back to a sort-of natural wetland. However, the author takes the opportunity to discuss modern ecological theory.


I learned that my thinking was not up to date. For one thing, I had thought that nature "seeks" some sort of harmonious balance. Nope. Reinventing Staten Island - The ecological philosophy of turning a garbage dump into a park.

That's a pretty good article. At one point she mentions bats and how do we encourage them. Getting rid of monstrosity wind mills would help as they kill a half million bats a year. Bats have only one pup a year. Also, only a brief mention of global warming and I hope that mens that particular scam is losing its allure for the ecologist.

But, it does run counter to everybody's favorite "Red" Mayor, DeBlasio, turning the City into a DUMP!

Just waiting with great anticipation for the first 40 lb. bag of human sh*t to emerge, as it already has in oh-so-fashionable Left Coast, San Francisco.

Speaking of which, where are our big sh*tbags from the Z-Borg?

The Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach CA (membership about $100k) is built over the old city dump. In Chicago, the city dump that was being used when I was a kid, next to Lake Calumet, is now a high end golf course, public owned but expensive. No trees because the roots damage the membrane over the garbage.
