Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

A changing party

How the Democratic Party became a party for the elites and of the dependent.


The elites believe they should run my life, and the dependents want my stuff. As it is, governments take 42% of what money I make. I guess in a way I am a serf, or a tenant farmer.  I don't mind paying taxes, but it never seems to be enough for them.

The elites have the dependents well established on the government plantation and neither end of this parasitic venture bodes well for the rest of us.

People do not realize how much the govt takes in taxes. A little over 100 years ago there was no federal income tax.

Even back in the 1970's the average local sales tax was somewhere around 3%. Now it is approaching 10%.

During the Clinton era people started to have their Social Security taxed and they created dozens of new licensing fees - i.e. taxes.

The size and control of govt needs to be cut by 75%. Having all that extra money in your own pocket would make everyone wealthy.

If you don't mind paying taxes, you are a saint. Don't get me wrong, I pay mine and the IRS can audit me any time if they don't believe it. My wife is an accountant and she insisted on paying everything we might need to pay when we got married. It was our first big fight. But she won and though I am poorer, I sleep a lot easier knowing that I am in the clear.

My son got his first summer job last year and he was hoppin mad when he saw the bite taxes had taken from his first paycheck. Now he is further to the right than I am on taxing and spending.
