Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Charles, we admired you greatly

Psychiatrist, author, and talking head extraordinaire Charles Krauthammer, M.D., dead at 68 of cancer. Selections from The wisdom of Charles Krauthammer.


I enjoyed his 2013  Things That Matter: Three Decades of Passions, Pastimes and Politics.  In that book, he recalled that he learned to speak fluently and precisely when dictating after having lost the ability to write on paper.


An athlete who was paralyzed since medical school in a diving accident, Charles led one heck of a vital, productive, wonderful, full life. I always thought he'd be back... God bless him and his family.

I used to follow his newspaper column as a high school kid because I felt it was important to read people you disagreed with so you could test the strength of your position on various matters. He seemed to get smarter as I got older. Funny that.

Was never within a thousand miles of Charles, but I feel like I've lost a good buddy. Not many public figure deaths affect me this way.

For all of his good points as a conservative, however, he was very much not a friend of gun owners.

Krauthammer was the main reason that I started recording "Special Report" every day. Often, I would fast forward through the news stories and just watch the opinion round table at the end of the broadcast. Charles always had a well reasoned and logical opinion.
