It's not about the poor children

I am not sure how the illegal situation works, but it you arrest illegals (good idea) and they have kids with them, do what?

This has been going on for over a decade, but Obama kept it quiet. Suddenly, it's a big emotional issue. In fact, a political issue.

Actually, it's been going on since Clinton. Funny about that.

Nobody wants to separate children from parents, but nobody should get to jump the immigration line just because they show up on the beach with a kid in tow.

Unless the laws are changed, I'd just ship every border-crosser back to Mexico with a little lunch money. Clearly the issue is deterrence. Suggestions?

Fake news.

This is all further manufactured outrage to drown out:

1. Trump's huge diplomatic coup with North Korea, which leaders in Asia are still praising him over.

2. The Inspector General report that shows that the FBI and Justice Department are corrupt to the core.

Obama did the same thing throughout his reign (separate kids), nobody said anything then. Oh yeah, and it's Congress that would have to change the law on this. Trump is simply enforcing the law.

What are the alternatives? House children and adults together? Recipte for disaster. Let the whole family walk free? (What Democrats really want so they will then disappear.)

Yes, house children and adults together if their only accused crime is immigrating. Please explain why this is a recipe for disaster. We did it for decades.

All adults with children housed together or separate accommodations for each family group? How sure are you that each "family group" that shows up at the border is indeed a family?

Legally it can't be done. Look up the Flores Consent Decree, or check any number of conservative sites on this issue.

If a family is captured in an illegal crossing and is willing to return to their homeland, little separation occurs.

If a family claiming asylum presents themselves at a port of entry, no separation.

The problem is people who cross illegally and THEN claim asylum. They are now being held until their claim is decided. However, under the Flores decree, minor children of asylum seekers can't be held for more than 20 days before being relessed to relatives already in the US legally or to foster care.

This has been going on for years (those pictures of kids in kennels are from 2014 under the rule of Saint Obama) but the previous practice was 'catch and release'. What all these cries going up are really about is allowing anybody caught in an illegal crossing with children and claiming to be a family to be granted entry.

When Obama and Clinton did it, it was with the best of intentions. Bush and Trump are Republicans and therefore everything they do or did is evil. Intentions matter. Intentions are all that matter. This is known.

It is about a shortage of cheap labor that the Democrats big business supporters need. They are willing to exploit children so that the borders will open with cheap labor for their REIT, etc. The issue of the children could be discussed like adults if that was the real issue. The Democrats owe their big supporters a return which is a free flow of exploited workers.

Mexico can end the problem immediately. Trump says: all trade and tourism with Mexico shall cease until Mexico stops people from other nations from reaching the USA.

As Jim said above, the Democrats want to win in November and they have no message to compete with Trump's successes. So the best way to try to get some traction is to try to pick something that will stick to him. They gin up anger at Trump doing what presidents since Clinton have done, only not being honest about that history.

When we arrest anyone with children, we separate them from the children. Are we supposed to be thinking, "Oh, I thought I wanted it to be illegal to crash the border, but now that I realize being arrested means you can't take your kids to jail with you, I want to legalize the activity to avoid that result"? In that case, why make robbing banks illegal? Don't we feel sorry for the bank robber and his lonely children? Jail is harsh. That's a large part of the point of jail.

Uh, no. Unaccompanied minors had to be sheltered, of course, but the policy was not to separate minors who were with their parents. That's on Trump.

Why should those who can walk across the border get preference over those who must cross the sea? Does that make sense? I would also like the outraged to tell us whether we should open our borders to everyone who wants to come here and if not, what should the rules be and how should they be enforced?
