Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Islay Storm and other Aldi/Trader Joe’s single malts (speysides and highlands)are very acceptable daily drinkers. Unfortunately I got hooked on Macallan’s 12 long ago and now am relegated to eating popcorn one week a month to afford that ridiculously expensive habit! I feel like a broke college student again.

Harvard discriminates against Asians, big time. Aren't Asians "people of color"?

Shouldn't Harvard lose its tax exempt status for blatant discrimination?

The subjective scoring categories of "personality, kindness, respected" are how children of the "connected" get admitted. Everyone knows big donors are kind, and politicians' kids have good personalities, while Asians have bad personalities, lack courage, and are disrespected (by Harvard).

What Harvard needs to lose is its reputation. People place way to much stock in the long ago reputations of these places. It is pure BS.

As Thomas Sowell said in an Uncommon Knowledge interview (words to these effect)

"The primary benefit of having graduated from Harvard is not being impressed by people who have attended Harvard."

I am beginning to wonder if liberalism could possibly be a genetic disease, perhaps born with an extra gene, the stupid gene. If you watch the TV talk shows and see the liberals smiling and happy as they make up lies about Trump and sincere and sober as they shuck and jive around the crimes of Hillary and the FBI, you have to wonder if they are normal. It is one thing to be a congenital liar but quite another to have an entire political party of congenital liars.

An alternative theory is that someone is sitting at home with their loved ones holding a gun to their head while watching what is said on TV. Stray from the agenda and they shoot your spouse and children.

Even my Senator, Ron Wyden (who lives in New York with his family) by all measures a good and honest man and not a radical, will on cue spout the same far left radical pap that the more crazy far left senators spout all the time even in their sleep. I can't explain Wyden (our senator from New York) who at town hall meetings can almost sound conservative and reasonable (he does fly back to Oregon to meet with the voters sometimes).

Ain't a bit of telling... I suppose part of it (political behavior) could be crowd or rather mob behavior. But it's probably more likely that they are just playing to their audience and playing political games to curry favor.

College professors seem to be another breed. They rarely seem to be tethered by reality and in fact, they seem to even be proud of their unhingedness. I wonder if they are in an unconscious - or maybe it's conscious - competition to come up with new "realities" so they can say they discovered it first or maybe to stake their claim that they are smarter than everyone else. After all, they're the college professors and if doesn't make sense to you, you're obviously dumber than they are.

Both the Santa Barbara and the Santa Cruz campuses of the California system are well know, and always have been, to be "easy" schools. That is to say here is where you put the sons and daughters of some prestige--you know, those who don't really want to learn because they have grown up in a household that taught them they already know everything! These two campuses have been considered "wash outs" for at least forty years that I know. They have always been what Harvard and the University of Illinois now want to become.

interesting that you mention university of illinois. used to be top-flight physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, mathematics, computer science. now under destructive attack by "diverstity", intersectional math, whatever....

Everybody knows that socialism would be a great success if only the right person were in charge. Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, and Chavez were just not the right people. Next time they will get the right person and everybody will live happily ever after, just like in the fairy tales.

Someone finally noticed the real purpose of the wedding cake debacle--just find a white male Christian and "do him". Yeah baby! I hope to live long enough to see more white males stand up for what used to be democracy. This lawsuit was just looking for a way and a place to happen. The liberals do it everywhere. The bring in outsiders of some sort and give them housing and some kind of job. There real job is to attack some local business, or some local school, or some local republican, or some local. . .
Ask your daughters who have been through leadership training programs. The democrats also bring in thousands of out of staters to a big election. They bring them in the summer before and house them until after the election. Then by magic they disappear---move on to their next "job".
