Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Sunday, June 10. 2018Are "people of color" individuals?
This young man does not feel oppressed. In fact, he feels privileged. He is. He is smarter than me and is attending an elite school. He appreciates that. I think this guy has a good future.

QUOTE: Coleman Hughes: If the races were reversed—if a black musician had been fired in order to achieve an all-white aesthetic An all-white aesthetic, like with most everything in commercial art. It's news when the mold is broken, as with Black Panther. QUOTE: Coleman Hughes: What do slavery and Jim Crow have to do with modern-day blacks, who experienced neither? Because reasons. QUOTE: Coleman Hughes: “We were brought here against our will,” despite the fact that they have never seen a slave ship in their lives, let alone been on one. There are many people alive today who lived through Jim Crow, if not themselves, then their parents or grandparents. “The past is never dead. It’s not even past.” — William Faulkner QUOTE: Coleman Hughes: In his recent essay collection, {Coates} doubled down on this pitiless sentiment: “When 9/11 happened, I wanted nothing to do with any kind of patriotism, with the broad national ceremony of mourning. I had no sympathy for the firefighters, and something bordering on hatred for the police officers who had died.” Out of context quote. Coates, discussing how his friend was killed by police, follows that almost immediately with "I grew. I became a New Yorker. I came to understand the limits of anger." Kiddiez be diverting again with their selective whataboutisms.
"What do slavery and Jim Crow have to do with modern-day blacks, who experienced neither?"
The civil war ended 153 years ago; over 5 generations ago. When will it no longer be an excuse? When does it end? Ever! Never! When!!! IMHO this is an incredible disservice to people of color to keep them down by giving them these lame ass excuses for choosing not to work and achieve success. I wouldn't want to bring up my children that way it is unbelievably stupid that people of color bring up their children in this way. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I honestly believe we all know why so many people of color do not succeed. Instead of a "tiger mom" like the Asian children have, people of color have the "I don't give a shit mom". As for your "reasons" you can find the same videos where cops are beating/shooting white and hispanics. This isn't "racist" it is bad (really bad) policing and the individual officer(s) and the department should be held accountable. I wouldn't necessarily say that black moms don't give a sh*t. I think it's more important that in most black families, there is no father (other than Uncle Sam).
I'll give you that... But why do you suppose there is no dad? Yes I know that Uncle Sam pays welfare moms to dispose of their baby daddy's and we could simply blame this on welfare. But IMHO if you have a baby without getting married knowing (how can you not know) it will negatively affect your child. And/or you have a baby to get the welfare. And/or you have 3, 4, 5 babies from 3, 4, 5 baby daddys... THEN you don't give a shit about your children.
Yes I know many parents of all races/cultures are good parents just as there are bad parents in all races and cultures. But the conversation was specifically about those people who by choice or by upbringing have decided that something that ended 153 years ago is responsible for all their current problems. So my point is simply that IMHO this is a terrible disservice to African Americans foisted onto them by the race pimps black racists. You can't fix it by agreeing with it or ignoring it. And a big part of the problem is that a lot of people don't want to fix it, they want to milk it for all it's worth. I also feel that my tiger mom reference really says it all. Children are like unfilled vessels they want to learn they easily learn, especially at a young age. Parents who want their children to succeed are teaching them and reading to them and those parents who do not do this should be ashamed. Anon: The civil war ended 153 years ago; over 5 generations ago.
But the oppression didn't end. Anon: "What do slavery and Jim Crow have to do with modern-day blacks, who experienced neither? But that's not true. Many living American blacks experienced Jim Crow personally. If not themselves, then their parents or grandparents. So it never ends. It is the gift that keeps giving. Some blacks will gain political power and some will become wealthy riding this scam for the next 153 years. And for it to work the rest of the blacks must be kept down, kept on welfare, kept believing the world is against them. And YOU are OK with that.
Imagine that these victims had a concealed handgun. Imagine if every law abiding person could legally carry a concealed weapon. I would bet dollars to doughnuts that the roving "teens" would not be the problem that they are today. An armed society is a polite society.

Lol. My father's Dutch Protestant and still hates the English for what they did to the Boers. And don't get him going about the Germans.
And then there's the Catholics from umpteen hundred years ago. Sweet guy but he's issues David: My father's Dutch Protestant and still hates the English for what they did to the Boers.
Quite so. Virginians in Richmond protested a small, intimate statue of Abraham Lincoln, in a city with a 60-foot tall statue to General Lee. Reconciliation is imperative, but reconciliation requires recognizing the truth. ^ The Clattering Site Robot(s) lectures on morality. How's that work when you can't think?
I'm a person of colour, everyone is a person of colour, just different colours.
It's just that some colours are more equal than other colours. Apparently in "modern society" the amount of melanin in your skin determines how valuable you are, the more the better. If someone with a light skin even hints at not liking something someone with a darker skin does, the accusations of "racism" are everywhere and impossible to stop because even hinting those accusations are false is itself "racist". If however someone with a dark skin screams out for the wholesale slaughter of people with lighter skin (as happens in e.g. the South African parliament...) it's all good and normal, nothing to see here. |
