Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

"Germany targets remaining members of Nazi death squads"
By law, now, if you were a cook in the same army that killed civilians you were legally part of the "death squad". IMHO this is stupid. If they were uncovering senior leaders who actually participated in or planning the killing of civilians this might make sense. But 75 years later this looks like over zealousness on steroids. This is an alternative #metoo campaign so some prosecutor can earn their chops. I lived in Germany and knew, worked with and was friends with a number of men who fought in WW II including one who was SS. These men were not the problem. Most of the Germans who fought were not the problem. Yes there were terrible things that happened but the common soldier didn't cause these things and couldn't have stopped them. At this point what difference does it make? Yes, GWTW.
My first reaction to the headline was, what's the point? If they were going to prosecute these men, why did they wait until they were nonagenarians? Why not charge them decades ago? Me thinks this is mostly political theater going on here. I disagree. Yes there may be political theater at work, and there's much more that is important. There's generations in Germany who did not experience WWII, and there's old soldiers and family members who try to put some lipstick or lies upon their involvement or culpability. It's important to educate the younger generations. Also, it is important to the exposing attempts at smothering the truths in Eastern Europe of the involvement of local fascists and anti-semites in working with the Einsatzgruppen. Then there's the families and survivors who have waited far too long for any justice. Lastly, although there's more, some crimes do not have statutes of limitation.
Thanks for your reply Bruce.
As I was writing my comment I was wondering what you thought about this post. I have no argument with your opinion. My main question is the timing. There are some times that are better than other times, and it's always a good time to expose evil and educate the young about it.

The Gaza video has no women in it. this is the norm in the Muslim culture. What a strange culture they have.
Yeah, I flew cargo and pax in and out of a bunch of ME places back in the '50s, with an occasional layover for crew rest. It didn't take long to decide you didn't want any more contact with those folks than needed to get the job done. I sensed they felt the same.
Strange culture? You mean the Islamic culture of hate, violence and death? Or strange in that not eating during the day and stuffing yourself after sunset is called a fast?
I thought what a strange place, no women. He even refers to the little boys putting out mats as "the kids". No female kids I guess.
China with there communist government gotta commie. First thing that must go is God. There can be no higher power than the almighty government. All totalitarian societies follow the same script. They call it progressivism in the West. There really isn’t anything progressive about it. It is a playbook as old as human history. A government for the people, by the people, is what is unique. Give me liberty or give me death.
A Marxist can not tolerate a competitor that holds the loyalty and love of ordinary people...that competitor MUST be destroyed and the memory erased.
"Anthony Bourdain Found Dead After Commiting Suicide By Hanging".
Isn't that redundant? Don't you always find people dead after they commit suicide? He traveled the globe and found everything else. Now he found dead.
I'm sure you recognize that today's (the last half-century) university is about indoctrination, not education. Hence, it is no surprise that journalists can neither think nor write and editors either do not or will not edit.
Bee: This is just typical for the left. One of them says something that would get someone on our side fired, and they keep their job. While there aren't any comedians on air that are as far to the right as this hag is to the left, just imagine someone calling Michelle Obama that and not being instantly fired. I can't.
The story I read in Variety called her show "a critical and commercial success" which made me wonder what it takes to be "a critical and commercial success" today. Before I realized what a hateful harpy she was, I watched a few minutes of her show and it was her spewing non-stop leftist venom. So it is hard to imagine anyone who is moderate or on the right getting past the nastiness to watch. John Stewart could be funny if you could stomach his policies. Bee has none of that and has a face for radio, not television. So I guess if you can get 2% of the audience today you are a commercial success. Air America ('Progressive' radio at its finest) was like that. Much ballyhooed in the media, and frothing against conservatives.
It was billed as the 'Anti-Rush' and was supposed to take over the airwaves. Listened to it once for about 15 minutes on Sirius. I really didn't see the appeal, and I wasn't surprised when they couldn't get advertisers and blew through their venture capital in short order. They died when the money ran out. Turns out you can rail against the evils of capitalism all day long, but that won't keep the lights on... Seattle residents coming to their senses...

Rephrase: "Silicon Valley giants such as Facebook, Amazon have once again shown that they are our enemies." Hey Zach Borg!
“April was best month in history for U.S. budget, according to CBO figures.” “All told the government collected $515 billion and spent $297 billion, for a total monthly surplus of $218 billion.” Looks like those tax cuts are working like a, what’s the phrase The Light Bringer used? Oh yeah, magic wand! https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/may/7/cbo-says-april-was-best-month-history-us-budget/ In other news, Hillary Clinton, will never be president! And to think, all it took was getting someone other than Obama or Hillary in as President for ALL of Obama's financial ideas to work PERFECTLY!!!
/sarc. Really. also, "The contiguous United States had its coldest April in more than 20 years".
According to the zachborg, this is precisely because Trump is continuing obama's climate policies, including obama's policies of ditching the nonbinding paris accord and supporting US energy industry. While hillary still isn't president, she is still hopeful that with Zach's energetic unflagging support, she will be soon. jaybird: "The contiguous United States had its coldest April in more than 20 years".
It's called confirmation bias. You look at evidence you think supports your viewpoint, but the ignore evidence that undermines your viewpoint. While much of the U.S. was cooler than normal in April, the Earth as a whole was warmer, much warmer than normal in April. jaybird: this is precisely because Trump is continuing obama's climate policies Trump is not continuing Obama policies, of course. Zzzz: Trump is not continuing Obama policies, of course.
Neither is Hillary, of course. Zzzz: While much of the U.S. was cooler than normal in April, the Earth as a whole was warmer, much warmer than normal in April.
And normal is considered the base period between 1951-1980, kiddiez???? As has been pointed out to y'all before that particular period is used by the warmists because it was a period of cooling around the globe. It's fudging the numbers. Dishonesty, pure and simple, kiddiez. Hate to rain on your parade, but isn't April 15 the day by which you Americans have to file your federal tax returns and remit all taxes due? Here in Canada, it's 30th April, or - if that happens on a Saturday or Sunday, the Monday following. But the same principle applies: those owing tax will hold off paying until the last possible due date. In your case, that means 15th April. Rather suspect the Federal Treasury registered a lot of payment son 14th April as those owing rushed to ensure they would not be penalized for late payment.
Obamacare alone killed off 2.5 million jobs, according to the Congressional Budget Office. And yet Obama and friends describe it as "freeing us from our jobs" to "find other options." Yeah, like permanent unemployment for many. And that cancer is still hobbling our economy and destroying the healthcare system. Fortunately, the Trump Justice Department is now coming out and saying what we all have known, the Obamacare is unconstitutional and should be invalidated by the courts.
Jim: Obamacare alone killed off 2.5 million jobs, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
You have your supply and demand backwards. The CBO did not project a loss of 2.5 million jobs (demand), but a decline in the amount of labor that workers choose to provide (supply). For instance, some people may retire earlier than they may have otherwise because they can get health insurance on the exchanges. QUOTE: It's called confirmation bias. You look at evidence you think supports your viewpoint, but the ignore evidence that undermines your viewpoint. LOL, Comrade Zach, Dear Leader Obama called it "freeing people from their jobs to seek other options." I don't think even Lenin or Stalin could have put it so well.
No Zach, it was companies restructuring how they hired workers because they could not afford to provide Obamacare. Tens of millions of full-time jobs simply disappeared, replaced by part-time shift work. Computer programs carefully kept track so that these part-time workers never passed the threshold where Obamacare kicked in. For many other companies who didn't have this ability, they just shut down. And sorry, I got the figure wrong, it was 2.9 million jobs PER YEAR. That's a hell of an employment record for Obama. Worst job destruction record in history, all caused by Obama's policies. https://www.forbes.com/sites/chrisconover/2014/02/24/obamacare-will-cost-2-9-million-or-more-jobs-a-year/#57d543a559b3 Thank God the Justice Department will be leading new efforts to have it declared unconstitutional. Jim: it was companies restructuring how they hired workers because they could not afford to provide Obamacare
You said "Obamacare alone killed off 2.5 million jobs, according to the Congressional Budget Office." In fact, according to the CBO in Labor Market Effects of the Affordable Care Act, "CBO estimates that the ACA will reduce the total number of hours worked, on net, by about 1.5 percent to 2.0 percent during the period from 2017 to 2024, almost entirely because workers will choose to supply less labor".

Sadly, Zach, as the report states, that is because the more you work, the more you are punished by Obamacare taxes and penalties-- increasing Obamacare costs effectively eat up all your increases in labor, leaving nothing for you.
"For example, some provisions will raise effective tax rates on earnings from labor and thus will reduce the amount of labor that some workers choose to supply. In particular, the health insurance subsidies that the act provides to some people will be phased out as their income rises—creating an implicit tax on additional earnings— whereas for other people, the act imposes higher taxes on labor income directly." So there is a disincentive to work created by the stupid law. In other words, people want to work but can't because of Obamacare. This is basically what happens in marxist-socialist economies where people stop working because there is no reward. On the positive side, that report also predicted that the Obama depression would continue until at least 2020 (high than normal unemployment). Trump has now reversed that.

Jim: as the report states
Thank you for correcting your previous misstatement. The difference is due to how many hours people choose to work rather than due to unemployment.

CBO: "The estimated reduction stems almost entirely from a net decline in the amount of labor that workers choose to supply, rather than from a net drop in businesses’ demand for labor, so it will appear almost entirely as a reduction in labor force participation and in hours worked relative to what would have occurred otherwise rather than as an increase in unemployment"

In hindsight, the CBO’s 2014 interpretation of the economic and budgetary effects of Obamacare were subject to a great deal of uncertainty.
Kinda like you kiddiez.

B. Hammer: “April was best month in history for U.S. budget, according to CBO figures.”
It's called confirmation bias. You look at evidence you think supports your viewpoint, but the ignore evidence that undermines your viewpoint. April is a surplus month for the federal government. Perhaps you can figure out why. The surplus for April was $35 billion more than the previous April. That's good! However, the deficit in May was $56 billion worse than the previous May. For January through May, the deficit is $91 billion worse than the previous January through May. B. Hammer: "according to CBO figures"
According to recently released CBO figures, after accounting for the economic feedback, the federal deficit will increase $1.9 trillion due to the tax cuts. QUOTE: CBO’s estimates of the economic and budgetary effects of the 2017 tax act are subject to a good deal of uncertainty. Southern Poverty Law Center. They are left-wing, but they are mostly just a scam to raise money. If you read their stuff, they don't work that hard at research, just throwing new bits into each file as they come up. Hi AVI. You're right, there's not a whole lot of substance to their material, but unfortunately they've poured a tremendous effort into building their brand, and this is the value proposition they offer. Formidable strong arm leverage for extracting money from the putatively-but-not-yet-formally accused. From the business perspective it's been money well spent.
