"Germany targets remaining members of Nazi death squads"

By law, now, if you were a cook in the same army that killed civilians you were legally part of the "death squad". IMHO this is stupid. If they were uncovering senior leaders who actually participated in or planning the killing of civilians this might make sense. But 75 years later this looks like over zealousness on steroids. This is an alternative #metoo campaign so some prosecutor can earn their chops. I lived in Germany and knew, worked with and was friends with a number of men who fought in WW II including one who was SS. These men were not the problem. Most of the Germans who fought were not the problem. Yes there were terrible things that happened but the common soldier didn't cause these things and couldn't have stopped them. At this point what difference does it make?

My first reaction to the headline was, what's the point?

If they were going to prosecute these men, why did they wait until they were nonagenarians? Why not charge them decades ago?

Me thinks this is mostly political theater going on here.

I disagree. Yes there may be political theater at work, and there's much more that is important. There's generations in Germany who did not experience WWII, and there's old soldiers and family members who try to put some lipstick or lies upon their involvement or culpability. It's important to educate the younger generations. Also, it is important to the exposing attempts at smothering the truths in Eastern Europe of the involvement of local fascists and anti-semites in working with the Einsatzgruppen. Then there's the families and survivors who have waited far too long for any justice. Lastly, although there's more, some crimes do not have statutes of limitation.

Yeah, I flew cargo and pax in and out of a bunch of ME places back in the '50s, with an occasional layover for crew rest. It didn't take long to decide you didn't want any more contact with those folks than needed to get the job done. I sensed they felt the same.

While there aren't any comedians on air that are as far to the right as this hag is to the left, just imagine someone calling Michelle Obama that and not being instantly fired. I can't.

The story I read in Variety called her show "a critical and commercial success" which made me wonder what it takes to be "a critical and commercial success" today. Before I realized what a hateful harpy she was, I watched a few minutes of her show and it was her spewing non-stop leftist venom. So it is hard to imagine anyone who is moderate or on the right getting past the nastiness to watch. John Stewart could be funny if you could stomach his policies. Bee has none of that and has a face for radio, not television. So I guess if you can get 2% of the audience today you are a commercial success.

Air America ('Progressive' radio at its finest) was like that. Much ballyhooed in the media, and frothing against conservatives.
It was billed as the 'Anti-Rush' and was supposed to take over the airwaves.

Listened to it once for about 15 minutes on Sirius.

I really didn't see the appeal, and I wasn't surprised when they couldn't get advertisers and blew through their venture capital in short order. They died when the money ran out. Turns out you can rail against the evils of capitalism all day long, but that won't keep the lights on...

Hate to rain on your parade, but isn't April 15 the day by which you Americans have to file your federal tax returns and remit all taxes due? Here in Canada, it's 30th April, or - if that happens on a Saturday or Sunday, the Monday following. But the same principle applies: those owing tax will hold off paying until the last possible due date. In your case, that means 15th April. Rather suspect the Federal Treasury registered a lot of payment son 14th April as those owing rushed to ensure they would not be penalized for late payment.

You have your supply and demand backwards. The CBO did not project a loss of 2.5 million jobs (demand), but a decline in the amount of labor that workers choose to provide (supply). For instance, some people may retire earlier than they may have otherwise because they can get health insurance on the exchanges.

No Zach, it was companies restructuring how they hired workers because they could not afford to provide Obamacare. Tens of millions of full-time jobs simply disappeared, replaced by part-time shift work. Computer programs carefully kept track so that these part-time workers never passed the threshold where Obamacare kicked in. For many other companies who didn't have this ability, they just shut down.

And sorry, I got the figure wrong, it was 2.9 million jobs PER YEAR. That's a hell of an employment record for Obama. Worst job destruction record in history, all caused by Obama's policies.

In fact, according to the CBO in Labor Market Effects of the Affordable Care Act, "CBO estimates that the ACA will reduce the total number of hours worked, on net, by about 1.5 percent to 2.0 percent during the period from 2017 to 2024, almost entirely because workers will choose to supply less labor".

Sadly, Zach, as the report states, that is because the more you work, the more you are punished by Obamacare taxes and penalties-- increasing Obamacare costs effectively eat up all your increases in labor, leaving nothing for you.

particular, the health insurance subsidies that the act provides

On the positive side, that report also predicted that the Obama depression would continue until at least 2020 (high than normal unemployment). Trump has now reversed that.

April is a surplus month for the federal government. Perhaps you can figure out why. The surplus for April was $35 billion more than the previous April. That's good! However, the deficit in May was $56 billion worse than the previous May. For January through May, the deficit is $91 billion worse than the previous January through May.
