We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
There is a very long history of popes behaving politically instead of spiritually. Historically, popes were often worldly powers. It's not all religion.

The Pope by now should know that Evil is in the hearts of men and no amount of programs and exhortations will change that. Only the Prince of Peace can help an individual change that for that individual. As the Vicar of Christ, get on with the job of helping individuals better themselves.
Have to disagree with you on the Titanic comment Peacelovewoodstock.
I'm Catholic, and tend to be traditional, but I don't worry about the church's future, and especially don't worry about the impact of one Pope. Mostly I don't worry because I don't listen to or believe the media. I get my news from the source.
The Catholic church has 1.2 billion people worldwide. It has had innumerable great writers over the years, and countless wonderful leaders at all levels.
There have always been people ready to condemn, but they miss the good.
