Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Cruz was not electable
According to CW before November 2016 neither was Trump. I'll just repeat something I have several times during and after the election. Over the last 120 years there have only been three instances of different people of the same party winning three or more elections in a row (Harding/Coolidge/Hoover, FDR/HST, Reagan/GHWB) and only one of those cases didn't involve the VP ascending to the Presidency first. GHWB was closely associated with a very popular President, running in a period of positive economic growth, and with the defeat of the USSR on the horizon. He was closely associated with the administration and eminently personally qualified to be President based on his history of elective office and public service. It still took running against the weakest Democrat candidate since McGovern and before Hillary to put him over the top. There certainly historic headwinds against both the Hildebeast and Trump. My view could be colored by the actual events, but I don't think a "conventional" candidate could have beaten her and Trump was the only "unconventional" candidate.
I would add that historically, the party that is out of power usually makes huge gains in the mid terms. I would not be surprised at all if that was not only not the case this time, but but the Pubbies made notable gains.
Every time I see Cruz, his facial expression makes me wince and a feeling of distrust sets in. I know you're not supposed to judge people by your first impression, but I do, always have and always will, because I realized a good half century ago that my first impressions are almost always right. Color me presumptuous
I know what you mean. I usually agree with him, but that expression! It just screams something awful is going in there. It's too bad.
Cruz did not appear to be eligible. After The Zero, we should understand why our founders designed the Constitution so that only NATURAL born citizens (child born to two citizen parents) is eligible for this position without allegiance to any other country or its leadership.
Europe has suffered centuries of warfare because its monarch's don't know from whence they owe their money or arms. Credentials, please. We must require credentials. Europe has suffered centuries of warfare because its monarchs don't know from whence they owe their money or arms. Credentials, please. We must require credentials. Screw credentials. We HAD 'credentials'. Obama was 'credentialed'. He kept getting people in who's 'credentials' were friggin' IMPECCABLE.
But 'credentials' have less use than a pile of bovine excrement. And our professional political class keeps going on about how 'credentialed' and 'professional' they are. Give me actual accomplishments any day of the week. Trump may not have had all the shiny 'credentials' that are so popular inside the Beltway, but he had accomplishments. And that's a hell of a lot more important than promises to someday examine whether an issue that's of great concern may someday be brought to a point where a committee can determine a possible course of action that will eventually lead to an actual study over what can be done. If there's a problem, solve the damn thing. Don't keep it around to use it when you campaign for the NEXT election! (Yeah, I'm disgusted at the whole 'credentialed' 'elite' in DC. Can you tell? Lol...) Re: the anti-American and pro-immigration meme, I think what has happened is a cabal or loose conglomeration of different groups with very different agenda's but a interest in what increased and uncontrolled immigration can do for them and their goals. Democrat politicians see increased immigration as a source of voters who will repay them for the opportunity for citizenship and all that offers them. There are a large cadre of lawyers and other professionals who are in the business of selling U.S. citizenship and are becoming rich doing so. There are various foreign(er) based groups who see political and economical gain if they can increase the numbers of their tribe in America. There are those who grew up believing and being told that the white European immigrants of previous generations and previous centuries are somehow bad people and need to be punished. There are also openly pro-communist groups who have dreams of overwhelming our country with populations of future socialist/communists. And of course there is the ever present spying/infiltration by Russia, China and a handful of other enemies of the state.
These disparate groups would never agree on much but they agree on increased immigration so they coexist. There is no coordinated opposition to this effort. Some disagree with the massive and uncontrolled immigration. Some don't care or simply don't understand the implications. Most are blissfully unaware of the enormity or the impact of the problem. We are literally being invaded and we for the most part either aid the invasion or ignore it. This is the second time I've heard the silly idea of sex as an Olympic sport. The first time, the writer merely intended to show how ridiculous it is that any activity which requires a judge to determine the winner is allowed to be an Olympic event (since judging unavoidably introduces both subjectivity and corruption).
I suppose a strong argument in favor is that the TV rights would bring so much money that taxpayers would never have to fund the Olympics again. You'd think they would at least get back to the original nude olympics like they started out.
Has anyone at MF noticed that the "feminist" thought leaders have been so powerful during the last 20 years that they have been able to destroy a 500 year old tradition of ethics (Protestant faiths)? They then went on to fill the confusion created by the vacuum they caused with millions of well intended women blindly following the "feminist ideology" of those "thought leaders".
#blindly dutiful feminist -- might be a good next trend. I believe that the millions of women marching around protesting for ???? are doing so in the same way 900 people drank poisoned cool aid in Jonestown. There is a vacuum and the wrong people have filled that vacuum with Stalinist ideologies. I wonder how many times the phrase "grave concerns about material omissions of facts" is going to appear in challenges to search warrants sought or served by the FBI in the coming months.
I'm waiting for recreation-al sex where the couple try to reproduce the great love scenes of the movies and discover the human sex organs don't fit together that way.
Re the Mueller investigation. I always thought that general warrants were unconstitutional.
There IS a real Russian who has and is intent on influencing America's elections, politics, and economy in collusion with the Democrats.
