We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I accept that many Dems and Lefties hate their country, hate the government, hate the voters. I feel sorry for them today. This country, and the nothing it did "for" my immigrant grandparents and my parents (except for the minor details of freedom and freedom of opportunity) is sometimes more greatly appreciated by immigrant families than by the elites, the privileged, and the blue-bloods (yes, my grandparents were poor European legal immigrant youth, Catholic peasants who loved the idea of America before their ships even arrived.)
My grandpa (who became a Massachusetts chicken farmer here, and then a chicken distributor) used to say in his Polish accent in his 90s "America, not for everybody. America, it takes guts." And I would think of plastic barrels of chicken guts, heads, and feathers ready for the cat-food factory..
Trump's speech was splendid. Could have been a bit better had I written it, but a darn good job. Patriotic. Positive. Spirited.
The 2.4 million jobs, the 200,000 manufacturing jobs, the $8 trillion in stock market gains, the new bonuses and investments weren’t ordered by the government. They’re the bonuses of freedom. When the government cuts taxes, slashes regulations and frees us from the burden of bureaucracy, we prosper.
"Together, we are rediscovering the American way," President Trump declared. "In America, we know that faith and family, not government and bureaucracy, are the center of the American life. Our motto is 'in God we trust.'" But the left’s motto is, “In Government we trust.” And only when they’re in charge.
Who are these ungrateful corpses, middle America must have been asking. Good question. (Can you imagine how much money Pelosi has made in the stock market since Trump was elected? What does she have to be so upset about?)
More jobs? No applause. Higher wages? No applause. Lowest black unemployment in history? Crickets. ISIS disappearing? Zzzz...
Both sides of my family are immigrants. Both ran from oppressive governments, one a socialist land-grabber, the other outright communist. We've given our new country doctors, nurses, engineers, teachers, electricians, authors, farmers, soldiers, manufacturers, and builders. No lawyers.
My grandparents came from Germany. I asked my Dad once, did they teach you German. He said they spoke German to each other, but refused to teach it to the kids, said, you are Americans, you speak English. 9 kids, grandfather died when my Dad was 7, no welfare, just family and a little church charity, all successful, fought in WWII. The Dems are all in on identity politics, divide and conquer. They will not succeed. Last night was a graphic display on the difference between the parties. Not that the Republicans wouldn't revert right back to beta-canines with their paws in the air if Trump goes away, Heaven forbid.
Greenfield: TRUMP DIVIDES AMERICANS AND UN-AMERICANS.
Maybe the Congress should set up a task-force. You know, to root out the Un-Americans. Maybe call it the House Un-American Activities Committee. “They'll nail anyone who ever scratched his ass during the National Anthem.”
