We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Today is the 242nd birthday of the Marine Corps. There's good reasons we're the few and the proud, and feared by our nation's enemies and respected by our nation's friends. Those of weak spine and mind may resent those of us who are not, but they are not the ones first called to charge forward, known to win. Instead weaklings guard their own rears (sometimes).
Thanks for that, Bruce. I'll admit to mixed feelings during my four years in the Corps. But as I age and with every passing day I feel so privileged, nay honored, to have been allowed to be a Marine for this great Country. What an experience.
I was never called to serve, but I appreciate all who did. I had an uncle who fought with the Marines in four battles in the South Pacific.
I am proud to say that I live in the country defended by the U.S. Marines.
Semper Fi and thank you.
Myself, I protected the beaches of Southern California from the Soviet Menace in the mid '80's. I was in MAG-16 stationed at Tustin back when it was a helicopter base.
