Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Trust once broken, is never mended. They should have not deceived in the first place - as they clearly meant to do. Aggie: Trust once broken, is never mended.
If you expect perfection, you will always be disappointed. When a mistake is made, the measure of trust is making the correction as required.

I have yet to see a correction to a politically sensitive story that didn't reflect information readily available with minimal effort, and almost invariably contradictory to the Left's narrative. One posted recently on Instapundit concerned comparing Trump's tweet calling for the death penalty for the recent Islamist attacker in Manhattan to his reactions to the Las Vegas shooting, ignoring that the LV shooter is already dead.
Everybody reads the story, nobody reads the correction. At some point you have to start to suspect it's intentional. Can I confess that I love pig fat. I hope that isn't white supremacy or cultural appropriation or something. I like to barbecue mice fatty country ribs and cut cross hatches in the fat before cooking. Get them a little caramelized before eating. No barbecue sauce to overwhelm that great flavor and juiciness.
...and you have to catch so many of the damned things.
Also, let's not go in to the utter tedium of barbecuing them. Those tiny ribs are forever falling through onto the coals! They're great if you're a cat

Re: Beyond shameful
Press bias and fake news isn't new. It was certainly not initiated by Uncle Walter, but all the more striking given the respect heaped upon him. Not only did he lie about the Tet Offensive but he ushered in a practice of giving the "news" and then giving his opinion about the news. General Brady had some very interesting statistics on combat in Vietnam. I wish he would have citations for them, not that I don't believe them. I tend not to get to carried away with what I read on WND. That said, I have nothing but respect and admiration for veterans of Vietnam. They have been drug threw the mud enough, it is more than past time for thier heroism and dedication to duty, and country, to be told honestly.
" I wish he would have citations for them, not that I don't believe them."
Statistics About The Vietnam War http://www.vhfcn.org/stat.html Another good source is a book titled "Stolen Valor". I think the authors name is Burnett? I have a copy stashed from a couple of decades past. I'm sure many skeptics would not believe the content but the information is all from government/military records. Library may have a copy. It was good to hear that Burns narrative was not that well received. He pretty much put together a narrative to justify the treason and abandonment of SVN. The Cronkite liberal narrative is the only one to ever be covered by NPR/PBS or the MSM. I wouldn't be one bit surprised to see Hollywood promote it for an award even though Hollywood is getting a rather tarnished image of late.
CBS's "Decades" is doing a self-congratulatory feature on Cronkite. which I can't bring myself to watch as the guy irritated me then and any reminder of his egoism would just send my blood pressure soaring.
No, it's not new, but Sharyn Attkisson's book The Smear will convince you that it got worse twenty years ago, and much worse ten years ago. In the old days, politicians or journalists who had a sense of how to spin things had an advantage, but it was pretty much ad hoc. Now there are literally thousands of people who get paid good money to spin, bury, and fabricate news. David Brock figures prominently.
"Prince William warns that there are too many people in the world"
Meanwhile, he and his wife are expecting their third child, reminding me of PJ O'Rourke's line about those who go on about overpopulation (I think he had the famous crank Paul Ehrlich in mind): "Just enough of me; far too much of you." (I do wish the Royals would just butt out sometimes.) LOL. Excellent point JJM.
OTOH the Caucasian race is working on the 'problem' . . . quite successfully. Prince William should have noticed the decline in white birth rates. Perhaps Prince William actually meant there are too many of "the wrong kind of people" in the world? Many years ago Scientific American had an article about great plagues and how they related to population. Their theory was that certain communicable diseases needed a large population to become pandemic. They had some charts to show past pandemics related to population and a clear implication that as populations continue to grow new pandemics would occur. There was also a correlation between the size of the world population and the numbers killed in a pandemic. So this "problem" may be self correcting.
Prostitution reduces rape by offering up the most vulnerable to be paid victims. Yikes. That is just a sick thing to say.
No thanks. Let's just press forward with sex robots...I'd prefer that option. Re: Egyptian lawyer
Maybe Egypt can mandate that the robots wear torn jeans! Seriously, I think rape is not merely a sexual act and there is an element of domination over a victim. If that's the case then neither prostitutes nor robots will make much difference. Now an armed female population on the other hand... I think mostly sexual but can't say for sure, as I am not a rapist. Talk to Harvey to find out.
The left as a defeated army.
Yeah? That's the feel good story, but since we don't treat them like POWs or a defeated army, they'll get another leader and rally again. There are a lot of useful idiots in this world, and leftists take full advantage of that. The political right doesn't even try to re-educate them. As long as the left pursues its rearguard sniping and yammering strategy, it will continue to look like a defeated army. I don't think it will attract many useful idiots with this strategy, idiots maybe, but not useful idiots.
There's still a lot of lefty and burn-it-all-down faction folks with money out there.
Money can bring forth a thousand blooms of death-wishers. I used to read Z-Man, but when he insisted that Ayn Rand was a communist, I sorta' eased toward the exit door...
