Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

My favorite is the flavor of "organic, cage-free" eggs when the chickens get into some stink bugs! Well I remember that from the farm. Ugh. I'm with you--I steer well clear or anything labelled organic.
"are Asians another minority oppressed by whites?"
Whites are less than 10% of the population on this rock. There are more than a billion screaming heathen chinee. How, exactly, am I oppressing them? Ridiculous. I am unable to distinguish organic from inorganic produce by the appearance or taste. For produce that doesn't ship well, I buy locally whenever I can, not only to get fresher produce but to encourage the local producers to stay in business. For many things, like carrots, potatoes, or onions, it clearly doesn't matter.
We have our own laying hens. I guess they've never gotten into anything that would make their eggs taste funny. I've never had that problem with any local eggs. There's a great deal to be said for avoiding the feed-lot system for cattle and pigs, from any number of perspectives. But to each his own. Trump isn't playing chess with NoKo; he's playing poker. And when you have an opponent on a weak hand, you keep raising until he eith4er folds or is forced to show his cards.

In this case, his cards include nuclear weapons and artillery within 60 km of Seoul, with a population of 10 million, the largest city in the Seoul Capital Area, with a population of 50 million. Zach,
Whenever NK is broke and starving, they threaten (to kill all their fellow Koreans). "Seoul is a nice little city - be a shame if something would happen to it" unless you pay us "protection" money. Do we wait until NK has 1000 H-bombs and hundreds of accurate intercontinental missiles? Do we give NK lots of money now, in hopes they won't demand more when they have 1000 H-bombs and missiles to hit the US as they say they will? Why would NK not demand more later, in exchange for not killing fellow Koreans in the Seoul, or nuking the US? Would it be cheaper to help Seoul be moved to the southernmost parts of SK? Or would it be cheaper to permit/help Tiawan, SK and Japan nuke up, to protect themselves? Or both move SK population and nuke up Tiwan, SK and Japan. Should we wait until NK slips tens of H-bombs in trucks or shipping containers into US cities? Can we trust anything NK would say or promise? Do you think NK is China's puppet and that China could shut NK down? (I do) Even Obama said NK was a very big problem. What do you recommend? I assume your plan is "more talks" while NK continues to build nukes and missiles. jaybird: Whenever NK is broke and starving, they threaten (to kill all their fellow Koreans). "Seoul is a nice little city - be a shame if something would happen to it" unless you pay us "protection" money.
That is somewhat correct, though the issue is trade, not aid. jaybird: Can we trust anything NK would say or promise? Unfortunately, the distrust works both ways. The U.S. reneged on a previous agreement, and has threatened to destroy North Korea. The North Koreans clearly desire a nuclear deterrent. jaybird: What do you recommend? Avoiding an escalation, that is, not "raising until he either folds or is forced to show his cards." North Korea is a nuclear power, and they will be very unlikely to unilaterally disarm when under constant threats from the U.S. So you have nothing to offer.

Zach, so you can;t answer the questions that have to be answered now, rather than later.
You are in a room with a crazy person who threatens to kill you and his sister as soon as he finishes building his sword. He uses antiaircraft fire and nerve toxin for executions of his family members. You have many swords, but the crazy guy would try to stab you when he gets his sword finished. Another person in the room is giving him the wherewithal to finish his sword. You admit you don't trust the crazy guy. There are some other people right outside the locked room who don't have swords, who the crazy guy has threatened to kill once he gets his sword made. You could give them swords, and give a sword to the crazy guy's sister. But your solution is to "avoid an escalation" while the crazy guy finishes his sword manufacture.

A closer analogy is that he has a sword and is holding your mother hostage. QUOTE: If one man says something to another, the stronger the other man is, the less he finds it necessary to answer back. He does not want to talk at all until he has to act, and then he wants to act with decision. The most contemptible of all attitudes to be in is to have talked loudly and then act with indecision. Now, just so with the nations. — Teddy Roosevelt Threats against North Korea have given them every reason to want a nuclear deterrent. How then do you think the threat can be reduced?

You're overlooking what Kim's endgame is. Any attack on SK by the North ends the Kim dynasty. Using a nuke ends it in 30 minutes.
Past US administrations have led NK to believe that legitimacy was on the negotiating table. Trump is making it clear that this is not true. Another guy named Dan: Past US administrations have led NK to believe that legitimacy was on the negotiating table.
Absent that, North Korea has no reason to disarm and will continue to seek deterrence. How then do you think the threat can be reduced? Otto Warmbier unavailable for comment.

QUOTE: Tucker: When our elites attack our national symbols as if they are worthless and loathesome, something important, something monumental has changed here. If the people who benefited most from America despise it–and increasingly they do–where does that leave the rest of us? "As I write this twenty years later, I cannot stand and sing the anthem, I cannot salute the flag; I know that I am a black man in a white world. In 1972, in 1947, at my birth in 1919, I know that I never had it made." — Jackie Robinson Martin Luther King takes the knee. Zach you are (indirectly) right for once !
Baseball IS slavery. Jackie Robinson was forced into the actual slavery of a baseball contract. The major league baseball players didn't make very much money, at their slave wages when Mr. Robinson was enslaved (true, nor sarc). The crazy Supreme Court favored segregation slavery in their infamous Dred Scott and Plessey v Ferguson cases. In their analogous baseball slavery cases, the Supremes permitted "baseball" to enforce slavery contracts in its infamous Federal Baseball Club v. National League and Flood v Kuhn cases. The Supreme Court needs its Brown v Board of Education case to strike down employment slavery. Even so, Jackie Robinson had it better than most black, white, yellow, brown or red citizens. Not many "have it made", unless they are children or our politicians. typo - sorry - "children, friends or bribers of our politicians"
It's true these poor devils who play for the NFL are truly exploited and victimized by the racist society they are forced to live in.
Why, Colin Kaepernick must scrape by on $19 million a year and has a net worth of barely $25 million and a few pennies! Oh, the humanity! Zach's heart bleeds for the terrible suffering Kapernick has been forced to endure. Sitting on his sofa on game day is just like MLK in Birmingham jail.
Darn those outside agitators and their peaceful protests. Why can't they just be happy Negros.
Keep in mind that when King was marching, large sectors of the American public rejected his methods. One of the most important documents from the period is his "Letter from a Birmingham Jail", wherein King justified his tactics, writing "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny." Don't recall MLK taking a knee for anyone except God.

Marriage became a privilege the day women started expecting men to be their slaves.
