We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I'm partial to the real Muenchen Hofbrau stuff myself. The American Oktoberfest brews (and Becks) tend to be too dark for my taste. I like ales, and stouts, and porters, but not in Oktober.
The weather looks to be good, and the Dachshund races are a blast. Albany closes the road for a block in either direction in front of the Biergarten and artificial turf is installed in the race area . It's something to see.
I like Marzen style beer and I also like Bavarian Helles. IMO the best buy for the $ from Munich is Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest and their Helles (Munich Gold). It comes in brown bottles, so it stands up better to shipping than the green bottle stuff.
Never been to Munich, but had the opportunity to have some Weihenstephaner draft in Nashville a few weeks ago too. Pretty damn good. Followed it up with HB dunkel. Also good.
Given the choice of all the micros and international beers, I still come back to Munich for my favorites
Imagine you were brewing beer three centuries ago. You don't have accurate thermometers, and you don't have refrigeration, other than a cellar shaded by chestnut trees. You might just make a big spurt in production in late winter, because when summer comes you will not be able to ferment slowly, and very likely many of your workers will be spends ng the summer growing your barley and hops, rather than brewing beer.
