Is Diversity our weakness?

Does your organization have a Diversity Enforcer yet?

Because of the eminent importance of Diversity, we at WMBriggs.com, like at Google and every other major entity, will be hiring a Diversity Enforcer. So that when anybody claims to be troubled by what is written here, we can point to our black female lesbian Jewish Enforcer (who will be paid very, very well) to show how devoted we truly are to Diversity. And then you’ll leave us alone.

It is commonly said that diversity is our strength. That cannot be true, if one even thinks a few moments about it. It's like saying that bad roads are an advantage, the proof being that the cars still run. The idea that we still function well despite our diversity is a strength, and something we should be justly proud of - but that is a function of our character and our values, not the diversity itself.

What do we mean by "diversity?" A variety of ways of looking at problems, or a variety of fundamental values? Or a variety of demographic groups defined by who-knows-who?

Diversity "could" have been our strength. But it is also an opportunity for the dishonest and cultural evil to gain advantage. Humans will divide into groups/tribes and smart humans have been doing this for milleniums to gain power, wealth and political advantage.

Sure, and they've also been overcoming their differences in order to create a more prosperous and powerful whole. Consider Britain or France. Or the U.S. — E pluribus unum.

Being diverse has value, but having Diversity is a serious negative.

Diversity is like disease, the more you have in a confined space the less likely you are to survive.

Diversity is difficult, often murderous. OK, if you can pull it off, but not something that should be an intentional goal for a society

Generally, diversity incurs short-term costs (friction, fracturing), but can have long-term advantages (openness, connectivity).
