Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Which works best? Wrongo, wrongo! For two alternatives, one is better, one is worse. For three or more, one will be best, one will be worst. Still, "Scott's a cartoonist, not a grammarian".
An Honest Question to Progressives: When Does the Proportion of Tax Money Claimed By Government Workers Get Too Large? Never, never, NEVER!! Continetti: NEVERTRUMPER from the beginning, so that taints his opinion badly. Guys like him sincerely believe only career politicians, like J F'n Kerry or the Hildebeast, hold all the answers to political problems.
No "serious MSM journalist" (said tongue-in-cheek) has reviewed or analyzed of the Trump Cabinet, with all those successful businessmen who use a businessman's approach to their current government jobs, for their overall effectiveness in solving heretofore intractable problems. Politicians, always running for office or re-election, seek perfect solutions to problems, their "intentions" serving as their launch pad for same. Businessmen seek "optimal" solutions to problems since their successes are actually measured by what they achieve, not what they intend. Businessmen understand that good intentions and $5 will buy you a cup of coffee at Starbucks and nothing else. Everybody knows those ancient Greek and Roman writers got their ideas by going to the library in Alexandria and reading books written by blacks. Alas, none of the great books written by blacks survived the fire.
Getting rid of Obamacare...If the Repubs get rid of the taxes that are in Obamacare then the rest of the law should be held unconstitutional as the tax part of Obamacare was what the Scotus cited as making it legal, that the law was a tax and not healthcare.
Anti-vaccine activists:
I don't understand why there is no prosecution and no civil law suit against these fools. People have died as a result of these superstitions disguised as science/medicine. My mother, born in 1916, had polio as a child. Some of her friends and family had polio. I was born in 1943 and I can remember as a pre-schooler visiting a relative (I think we called male friends and family uncles and female friends and family aunts so I'm not sure who it was) in the hospital in an iron lung. An ugly big noisy machine with a man's head sticking out of it. He looked at us through a mirror and talked between the machine's noisy compressions. Growing up my mother was terrified that one of her children would get polio. There was an "epidemic" of new polio every summer but no one was sure why in the summer. Consequently my mother would keep us inside on hot days with the shades drawn. Because of this I was taught to read before 1st grade and was reading books before I ever went to school, you have to do something sitting in the hot house with the shades drawn so we read. But my mothers fear was palpable. I felt it every day every summer... Until Dr Salk invented a vaccine for polio.
Thanks to Polio I developed a love and a need to read and thanks to Dr Salk I was able to play like a child and become an athlete and live a normal life. I got almost every childhood disease so most of today's vaccines didn't help or save me but they helped and saved my children, grandchildren and so far 4 great grandchildren. It is truly a shame that with those vaccines came safety and security so that people could forget why they were safe from killer diseases and laps into superstitious stupidity and become deniers of the efficacy of vaccines. I'm just not sure the human race is smart enough to survive itself. |
