Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. new blog about boot leg lps. We'll see how it progresses.:
QUOTE: Welcome to my Blog on my passion, bootleg LPs. The first bootleg appeared in 1969, a two record set in blank white sleeve stamped GWW - Great White Wonder. It was a collection of unreleased Bob Dylan tracks recorded at his home in 1962 and in Woodstock in 1967. A new industry was born, much to the chagrin of the large record companies. I saw my first bootlegs at a record shop in Milwaukee in 1973 and was hooked. I probably own something like two hundred now, some are very good, a few are amazing and others a complete rip-off. They were once hidden in back rooms or sold by mysterious mail-order outfits which advertised in Rolling Stone, but now are readily available (used) on eBay and specialty record collecting sites. I'm not going to argue the morality of taping a concert for free and selling at a profit. Obviously the performers lose control of the creative process and are not paid royalties. But with the average bootleg run back in the 70s about 1000 pieces and selling for $5 a piece, I don't think they dented anyone's income or ability to buy a Lear Jet. Your average Joe wasn't going to buy a bootleg, they were going to fanatics who probably had all of the official releases anyways. My purpose here is to review my collection, and cull the gems from the crud, and hopefully save you from making a B.I. (Bad Investment). I certainly have some bootlegs that aren't worth the wax they're pressed on. The history of Bootlegs was documented by Clinton Heylin in 1994 in Bootleg: The Secret History Of The Other Recording Industry. Equally interesting are the Hot Wacks Guides which provided basic information on each LP as well as a rating on the sound quality. I would search out Book XV, as it is the most complete. For Beatles' fans there's an extensive reference book called You Can't Do That : Beatles Bootlegs and Novelty Records By Charles Reinhart. All of these books are available used on Amazon or eBay. http://www.bootleglps.com/ where's the Black Album? (not the ethan hawke collection of Beatles and post-Beatles songs, this was a bootleg vinyl I remember buying in '79).
we used to buy everything from studio outtakes, alternate versions, imports, rehearsals, tapes from guys holding up recorders at concerts... all at the monthly Capitol Records parking lot swap meet in Hollywood. QUOTE: Is Secession a Solution to Cultural War? Secession would only make matters worse. QUOTE: One can only imagine how Iranians or Afghans would deal with unelected judges moving to de-Islamicize their nations. Heads would roll, literally. Which rather makes the point about theocratic governments. QUOTE: Can anyone seriously contend that whether a 14-year-old boy, who thinks he is a girl, gets to use the girls’ bathroom is a civil rights issue comparable to whether African-Americans get the right to vote? Bathrooms are no more the real issue for transgenders than water fountains were the real issue for African Americans. QUOTE: Bullying is something every kid in public, parochial or private school has witnessed by graduation. While unfortunate, it is part of growing up. While we tend to have a strong affinity to tradition, beating up "sissies" is one tradition American can probably learn to live without. Until this country acknowledges that transgenderism / gender dyspohoria is a serious mental illness, not a privileged status, we will have problems. Why a psychological delusion where you cannot understand gender reality gives you special rights to hiring, bathroom usage, etc. is beyond me. However, it looks like the American people are coming to their senses and will shut this nonsense down.
Jim: Until this country acknowledges that transgenderism / gender dyspohoria is a serious mental illness, not a privileged status, we will have problems.
In fact, humans exhibit a wide variety of different sexual behaviors and physical characteristics, and it is certainly not always binary. For instance, about one in a thousand births requires expertise to help determine sex, and often call for corrective surgery. Sometimes the psychological characteristics may be different than the phenotypical characteristics, or even genetic characteristics. Jim: However, it looks like the American people are coming to their senses and will shut this nonsense down. Transgender and non-binary people won't disappear because you refuse to acknowledge their existence. Total BS, there is no scientific evidence for that. I'm not denying their existence, I am saying the science says they have a serious mental illness similar to schizophrenia or serious bipolar where they cannot discern truth from delusion, in this case about their own gender.
In the 1800s, there was a crazy guy in San Francisco who believed he was emperor of the United States--Emperor Norton. The city residents tolerated and even played along with his harmless delusion. But no one believed it was true or paid attention to any of Emperor Norton's commands. Here, the crazy thing is the leftists and their politicians enable the delusion by saying it is true and that it deserves special elevated social, political and legal status. Jim: there is no scientific evidence for that.
That is incorrect. It's a situation that occurs in roughly 0.1% of all human births. See Blackless et al., How sexually dimorphic are we? Review and synthesis. American Journal of Human Biology, 2000. For instance, someone may be born with XY chromosomes, making them genetically female, but are insensitive process androgens, so don't develop male characteristics. There are also many different physical manifestations of male and female organs. Keep in mind that male and female sex organs develop from the same embryonic cells. Rather than a simple binary that is common for most people, for some there is a scale of sexual differentiation. And that's just the sex organism. Behavioral characteristics can very even more.

The evidence indicates that human sexual and gender diversity is largely inherent. Jim: but hey, we know there are multiple truths, each of which is equally valid, right? So much for "conservatives" being conservative. No. Facts are facts, and they are best dealt with forthrightly, even when they are uncomfortable.

That is called an aberration. It is NOT normal. Just like a calf born with extra legs, or a frog with two heads.
People who are born as 'intersex' are born with a genetic defect that we correct as human beings (either with surgery, drugs, or both...sometimes it is left alone for whatever reason) because we are a binary species. In the wild, animals with the same defect tend to not live out a normal life of others in their species.

They are different than you, if that is what you mean. Regardless, they are human beings, with human rights. Even a small town will have intersex people. A large city may have thousands. Add that to all the other variations in human sexual and gender identity, and you have a significant population of people who are LGBT+.

You miss the point. They are more than welcome to be different. I don't care, I don't want to be involved in it. Be as different as you like but do it in private. I don't care if you have 10 wives/husbands or do porno or swap partners all night. I don't care. But I don't want you to force legislation that forces me to participate or watch. The rest of us are human beings too. If this is what politicians want to run on, i.e. men showering/peeing with girls, than lets see who gets elected.

Z: Bathrooms are no more the real issue for transgenders than water fountains were the real issue for African Americans.
Poor analogy. First, it's not just about bathrooms, it's about locker rooms, battered women's shelters, women's sports, government and private benefits like SBA loans and scholarships, women's schools (interesting that there are still women's schools but I don't think there are any men's schools any more), and probably a lot more than that. Second, blacks were black. Transgenders think they are a different gender than than are - either because they honestly think that or because they are trying to game the system for their perceived benefit. Third, blacks were always (and still are) blacks. With the exception of very light skinned blacks, they couldn't decide they were blacks one day and white or oriental another. All this transgender business is lunacy. "Real" ones perceived themselves to be a different gender than they really are. Some want to support their delusion. Should we also support the delusion of people, for example, who are anorexic (who perceive they are fatter than they really are)? How about people who perceive themselves to be younger (or older) than they really are? mudbug: With the exception of very light skinned blacks, they couldn't decide they were blacks one day and white or oriental another.
Born this way. Lady Gaga is a man??????? I admit, it is pretty difficult to tell what gender the Hollywood types are these days in general.
Putting Lady Gaga's scientific treatise on whatever it was on aside, being "born that way" (believing they have the wrong gender) means nothing. People are born with all sorts of physical and mental abnormalities. Why couldn't gender dysphoria be one of them?
No matter how much a female wants to be a male, she will always have two X chromosomes and no matter how much a male wants to be a female, he will always have an X and a Y chromosome. mudbug: no matter how much a male wants to be a female, he will always have an X and a Y chromosome.
Interesting example. Some people are born with XY chromosomes, but are androgen insensitive. This may result in the person lacking secondary male characteristics, or it may even affect the embryo, leading to undermasculinized genitalia.

Don't play games. We've been here before (maybe it was another of you). You and both know those people are not who we're talking about. Transgender advocates say that a person's gender is what the person identifies as - in other words, what he says it is at the time. We're not talking about sexually ambiguous people.

Changing one's gender is usually a fairly complicated process. It varies by state. For instance, in California, changing your birth certificate requires a physician attesting that the person has "undergone clinically appropriate treatment for the purpose of gender transition". Some states do not allow birth certificates or other official documents to be updated.

Irrevelant. Transgender activists are generally not concerned with your birth certificate. For example, the NC law that was roundly criticized by trans activists and leftists defined gender:
QUOTE: (a) Definitions. – The following definitions apply in this section: (1) Biological sex. – The physical condition of being male or female, which is stated on a person's birth certificate.

Of course transgender persons are concerned with their legal documents, including birth certificates. Many states don't allow one to change the sex on the birth certificates, and others require surgery or hormones that many transgender people don't want or need. How easy is it to change the sex on your birth certificate?

We made no such claim. However, we don't think the Americans should cling to the tradition of beating up on "sissies" in school, no matter how venerable the tradition might be. The Plight of the Parasites QUOTE: Probably since the dawn of settled society, there have been people who found some way to live off the labor of others. Even hunter-gatherer populations had some freeloading, as some members of the group would be less productive than others. Settled society made freeloading a bit easier. Settled life required rules, which required enforcement and that meant government. Even the most streamlined administrations had extras and hangers-on, who figured out how to game the system so they could get paid to do nothing. http://thezman.com/wordpress/?p=9696 QUOTE: Obama's White House, 2009: 'Don't Pretend' Fox News Is a 'Legitimate News Organization' Keep in mind that Fox News was a major purveyor of conspiracy theories concerning Obama's citizenship. Fox News is a strange animal, one with a serious news division, albeit with a strong editorial cast, and a talk division that often has little familiarity or concern with the facts. Why wouldn't they cover it? It was heavily pushed by the Hillary Campaign.
Jim: Why wouldn't they cover it? It was heavily pushed by the Hillary Campaign.
False. Not only didn't the lie originate with the Clinton Campaign, but they never made it a public issue, firing the staffer who circulated the email in question. Regardless, that doesn't excuse Fox News for giving voice to something that was demonstrably false. True or not, it gains credibility when Obama promoted himself as being born in Kenya. If it weren't true, why was he having his literary agents telling people that? Either it was true or he was monumentally dishonest (which subsequently proved itself over and over again when he was president).

Golly gee, I still don't understand why Obama who was born in Hawaii we all agree, was using the SS# of a dead man from connecticut. Getting a SSN is the easiest thing in the world for a citizen. And why did Obama's grandmother and aunt in Kenya proudly say that they were there at his birth? And why did the first dozen or so of Obama's birth certificates all prove to be fakes? And how did Obama travel to Pakistan with an American passport when that would have been impossible? And why did Obama declare he was a foreigner on his college application? Do you think Obama has any responsibility at all in the confusion about his birth place???
Falsehood flies, and the Truth comes limping after it; so that when Men come to be undeceiv’d, it is too late; the Jest is over, and the Tale has had its Effect. — Jonathan Swift
The fact that Obama does not have a valid Hawaii SSN number (which would have started with a "575" or "576") is quite damning in itself. That's actually more of a problem than not being able to come up with a valid birth certificate.
I fully expect someone to finally uncover the damning evidence that Obama was born in Kenya or someplace other than America. Afterwards I fully expect Obama to be asked about it and see him smile and read something condescending off a teleprompter with media lighting not quite good enough to see the strings that manipulate him as the puppet he always was. The joke is on us.
We can't do much about the big joke except to try to root out the subversive elements the Joker left behind. Obama left a lot of mine fields; Obamacare is a good example of this. It's blowing up right on cue. You will notice the puppet masters wisely made it take full effect after Obama left office. Part of me thinks we shouldn't fix it or touch it and simply let it do it's destruction and every time the MSM brings it up show them that picture of Obama flipping off America. Or maybe replay Pelosi telling us we gotta pass it to find out what's in it. The zip codes for Hawaii and Connecticut are off by one digit - zero for CN is the initial digit and nine is the first digit for HI.
The simplest explanation is that an employee at the SSA misread the handwriting on Obama's SSN application and issued him a Connecticut number instead of a Hawaiian one. You're kidding right? You do know that when your joke is too subtle you are supposed to put "LOL" after it so people don't take you serious.
