Melania Trump Is ‘Miserable’ as First Lady

I see it as a sign of health that she hates the dumb job. Modern women do not want to be public ornaments to their husbands' lives or, in this case, political accessories. I think the Donald is ok with that.

Donald's new job has not enhanced her life. It has damaged her life. Where did this "first lady" idea come from, anyway? Is it like a sort of queen or something? I am glad Melania has no interest in being a celeb. She doesn't need it, and she seems shy anyway. She should live the way she wants, as best she can with the current restraints. Maybe she can trample this "first lady" thing just as Bill Clinton would have done had Hillary won.

If Bill Clinton had become First Lady, I wonder how many foreign dignitaries would have left their wives at home to keep him away from them.

The kind of "dignitary" who'd willingly socialise with a Clinton would happily sell their daughter's virginity for political favours, let alone sell their wives.

Melania is much more liberal than Donald, and if liberals had any sense they would cultivate her and boost her for her influence on him.

But in this they reveal they are scorpions. They simply hate, and cannot contain themselves. They want their tribe to rule, not their ideas.

Which is why, BTW, you should be brief in arguing with them. Give them one logical thing to chew on, just because it is the right and noble thing to do, and occasionally even does some good. But in arguing with them it is best to leave it at that. They are not logical, they are simply tribal. You will not get the last word because they will redefine terms and/or change the subject endlessly. It's like being chained to a game of whack-a-mole.

Have you all stopped to consider that none of us knows shit about what's really happening? All anonymous sourcing saying it's a dumpster fire vs Trump saying it's a well-oiled machine. Who is being (more) truthful? How do we judge? Behind all the salacious headlines, I found out that the FBI actually cleared Flynn and found his testimony to be truthful. But wait, how do I trust that? We're swimming in a sea of uncertainly, just grabbing on to whatever bits and pieces best keep our narratives afloat.

It's a helluva time to be alive. An interesting time.

Consider that we really are two different countries right now, not just in opinion and belief, but in terms of perceived reality. Our reality is not objective, nor is it a neutral rendering of outside stimuli. We apply a narrative to everything we perceive. We all saw the same press conference today... but not really. One country saw a crass, deranged, narcissistic maniac struggling to form a coherent sentence. The other country saw a refreshing non-politician finally speak plainly about the media and its agenda-driven lies. Neither is really wrong. This is some fucking real-time Rashomon-level shit happening right in front of us.

I for one welcome the reduced political presence of the First Lady. We elect one person for the roll as President. May Melania renew the roll of First Lady as a non political figure head. Michelle Obama wasted enough tax payer money.

That's one of the peculiarities of the U.S. system. The head of state is the same person as the head of government. In Britain, for instance, these offices are separate, the Queen being the head of state, while the Prime Minister is the head of government. This has the advantage that you can roundly criticize the head of government without necessarily criticizing the head of state, as in "The P.M. is someone with both feet planted firmly in the air, but God save the Queen!"

Laura Bush as First Lady had a staff of 14 people; Michelle Obama's personal staff grew to be 21. Call me crazy, but a staff of 21 people seems like a stupid waste of government resources.

Who cares about the First Lady, really?? It's just a leftover from when women didn't have their own careers.

Why should the President's spouse be expected to do anything besides support their spouse? I say cut the staff down to 2 or 3 people to help coordinate the state visits and leave it at that. This whole archaic First Lady nonsense needs to land in the dustbin of history.
