Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

How recent is the red-blue map?

I'm interested in what the colors represent. It's certainly following House districts by party, but why are some lighter and some darker?

BTW, I live in the that little blue dot in a sea of red on the border of Kentucky and Indiana.

Not necessarily accurate. Take TX-23, which is that big light blue area along the Rio Grande, a.k.a. southern border. TX-23 voted:

That finger of dark red on the Texas coast that juts into an area of deep blue in South Texas: I live on the fingernail. I like to think I'm on the business end of the capitalist sword.

I remember when they were considering establishing the Department of Education. Folks considered calling it the Department of Public Education. DOPE was a great acronym.

When Starbucks declared that they would hire 10,000 refugees it brought home the problem with refugees and immigrants. They are taking our jobs. Today a lot of young citizens work at Starbucks. They seem to like their jobs. But Starbucks will be outsourcing your jobs to "refugees". Thanks Starbucks. We will remember this.
