We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

New England Real Estate: Wellfleet, MA



Our realtor friend in Wellfleet is constantly tempting us with items. But we are smart: We rent on vacations and we are not rich. Who really wants more property maintenance when you could be reading, fishing, sailing, hiking, kayaking, or swimming? Who wants more drudgery?


The old Bookstore on the edge of Main St. is for sale. Not the Bookstore Restaurant, the old bookstore. Being a short walk to "downtown" is very desirable these days. A real bookstore in that tiny village is absurd, with tourists basically 2 months/yr. It's a house. Built 1830.  Asking $648,000.

How much are the annual taxes on that property (property plus school taxes)? I'll bet they come in a little on the high side...

Looks like maybe 2000 SF, plus whatever might be on the 3d
floor and basement in the main building. Hard to say if the
structure behind is connected or not. Wonder about the previous
renovations also. Taxes would be in the $4300 or so range.
Apparently Cape Cod is a bit lower at ~0.65% of value.
