Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

If the article on education in early American were passed in as a middle school history paper I would give it an F. Perhaps because the writing mechanics and style are good enough I might pass it on that basis alone. But the research is a few facts, all out of context, assembled to reach a foregone conclusion.
Massachusetts was anomalous for several reasons: it was prosperous, still Puritan-egalitarian, and had been in business for two centuries, just for openers. Yet even there education was not as bright and shiny as he would have us think. One can learn more about the reality of American education by reading the Laura Ingalls Wilder books - Lucy Montgomery's books are PEI but tell the same tale. Americans had a rudimentary literacy and numeracy. Which was still wildly ahead of most other places in the world, but not like what we would call universal literacy today. My mother grew up on the Canadian prairies during the early part of the last century. Her parents valued schooling, and all their children went to the local school (my mother and her elder sister in a horse and buggy; not certain how their brothers got there, but suspect - the boys being older - on horseback). My grandmother went so far as to insist the girls graduate and get a training - both ended up as RN's, while mother was also a teacher - on the grounds that it was easier for an "untrained" man to get a job than an "untrained" woman.
However, even in their part of Manitoba, school was not mandatory for all. A line was drawn around a town: inside the line, you had to send your children to school; outside the line, it was optional. This may well have been - at least in part - due to the difficulties of getting the young'uns off to school when said school was a fair distance away, the weather could be killer cold, and the only transport was by horse and buggy. But, as my mother remembered, the neighbor in the next farm over, just outside the "line" used that option to deny his daughters their schooling: he figured they would learn all they needed to know working around the house. QUOTE: In the Wake of Trump's Election, Consumer Confidence Soars Trumpism even works retroactively! Yuuuuuge Increase In Consumer Confidence. ‘The Art of the Deal’ was like the number one business book of all time or just about – I think it was. Fantastic job growth since election. We're Greece on steroids. Stock market surges on Trump. I’m really smart – I went to the Wharton School of Finance. Unemployment best ever because Trump. The AP report makes no mention of Trump but there is an obvious connection. Companies already see advantages to doing more business in the United States because they know the incoming administration will be much more business friendly than the outgoing crew. Because everyone knows a complex partnership between two major corporations and the State of New York was put together just in the last 30 days. Petty jealousy with fallacious arguments to support your bitterness.
What's it like to be wrong Zachriel? DrTorch: Petty jealousy with fallacious arguments to support your bitterness.
There's no fallacy involved in pointing out that the improvement in economic measures has been ongoing since 2009. DrTorch: What's it like to be wrong Zachriel? About what specifically? Your girl Hillary got her (not insubstantial) ass handed to her - accept it and move on.

About anything. You have a long list to choose from, though you rarely own up to it.
while zachriels is normally stupidly wrong 94% of the time, zhe is correct, a non-binding letter of intent was signed and announced October 16, meaning negotiations would have been going on for months before the election, probably back into 2015.
Tesla press release quoted here because libtards routinely use lies and frauds and logical errors like correlation = causation does not permit normal Americans do to so. it is more accurate to say that the deal was done in spite of a likely Cankles presidency. The Volokh article about Michael Mann was excellent, as VC articles usually are.

That wasn't for defamation, but for breach of contract (PDF). President Obama may still have 23 days remaining in the life of his administration but he only has 15 days of US government bureaucracy left to do anything...
It is frightening how much more damage he could do. Right now he's trying to get us into a war with Russia over the absurd allegations Russia hacked the election.
I'm going to really miss Thomas Sowell. I wish I'd found him when I was getting my second degree (BA in Econ).
"That wasn't for defamation, but for breach of contract (PDF)."
Really? In 1989 Drs. Pons and Fleishman claimed they were producing cold fusion. In 1990 Dr. Salamon and colleagues investigated the claims and reported in Nature magazine they couldn't find any evidence of fusion. Pons and Fleishman threatened to sue if they did not retract the article. Ray: Really?
Sorry. Thought you were referring to a difference case. The Pons and Fleischmann suit was never filed, and the lawyer in apologized. |
