We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I have liked kippers since I was a kid. Kippers and scrambled eggs for breakfast. I also love pickled herring with that cream sauce. I raised my kids on that. Canned salmon is disgusting. Canned salted anchovies? Well, there are good ones and terrible ones. The worst ones are used by pizza joints. Always wonder why they call canned Tuna "Tuna fish"? Is there some other kind of tuna that is not a fish?
Mmmmm...King Oscar's kippered herring, slightly smoked. Accept no substitutes.
I've found any brand of skinless, boneless sardines--packed in olive oil--to be about equal to the others. Always on saltine crackers. Quite possibly my favorite lunch (with a side of cottage cheese or applesauce) but not when my wife is home.
Can't wait to try stockfish, which I just discovered. Sounds like fish jerky.
My mother called it tuna fish,so I still do,but she was born in 1899, taught in a one room on the Llano Estacado in West Texas. She taught Latin and Castile as well as math American and English history and literature. We would lay outside at night and taught me the contilations. I am 77 years old today, and maybe I have met three more people as intelligent. MH.
