Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Wednesday, November 9. 2016Trump's Win Really Is Our Last ChanceThe Democrats are united under their latest echo-chamber theme: President Trump should be "the President of all Americans." Then they list their litany that they endlessly repeated during the campaign of how Trump's positions are the devil's. Some may quickly say they misjudged the electorate but then return to their rants. By "all Americans" they do not mean all Americans but, instead, the Democrat constituencies of those privileged by their government giveaways and crony deals. The hell with the rest of us. Unless President Trump manages to stay firm and persuade the runaway Republicans in Congress to cooperate, it will get worse and this will be America's last chance to survive as a pillar among a world of berserkers and thugs, while what will prevail longer term is the demographics of illegal and other immigrants importing socialism or selling our welcome for a bowl of porridge and the leftist indoctrination shamelessly imposed on our students. The people have spoken, but do not expect the Democrats and their media surrogates to listen any more than they have in the past. Expect more of their derangement and vile hateful attacks and lies. Be prepared to defend and fight back. Do not forget that is they who have been and will continue to be vile, and call them on it. Trackbacks

That it is, which makes it imperative the right stop being ostensible and slothful and figure out what to do next and then get it done.
Funny thing is you can say that even as a liberal and it's just as true. Has the Primary and the Election itself not proven to you that Trump can get it done? It will happen. He will not let us down.
The press made him out to be arrogant and stupid. He is neither. He is kind, gracious and cares for people. He said he will make all decisions with 'is this good for America' in his head. Should make it easy to get rid of the bad stuff.... 1. Starting even before January he'll be relentlessly attacked.
2. Congress will have no more spine for him than they've had for the voter. 3. In two years the nation, lacking the miracle it expects from its "leaders", will absolutely not renew either house under the Republicans, not that it'll matter. 4. He'll effectively be a lame duck by '18. This is because the right that lost the nation will have learned nothing. As it was then it'll be again. He's not an imperial solution, MissT, and you wouldn't want one in that office anyway. It's not a question of his character. No, this is on us. And unless we relearn how all this works right now - and far more importantly, why - we're no less incompetent than in '88, '92, '96, '00, '04, '08, or '12. Bullseye, Bruce.
It will be interesting to see how Trump holds up under attacks from all sides. Will he be able to stand strong or will he be bitch slapped into submission like Schwarzenegger was? Time will tell. The fight isn't over. It is just beginning. Long term, things look bleak. Schwarzenegger!
One of the biggest names in Hollywood! Fourteen letters! The networks, FOX excepted, didn't show Trump over 270 EVs even as they ended coverage after Donald's speech.
Much to my surprise PBS did, possibly because they were using AP numbers and AP promptly called Trump the winner. This morning I see some still don't color Arizona, Michigan, and Wisconsin red. I have to give credit where credit is due. The New York Times had the best election coverage EVER. Not only did they analyze voting results in real time (as opposed to sampling exit polls, which are just as potentially flawed as pre-election polls) but they also projected the remaining votes to be counted as being pro Hillary or pro Trump. This is how it should have been done all along.
I was stunned to see the Grey Lady call the whole enchilada for Trump by about 10:45 Central. If only the NYT had been this unbiased it its reporting of the candidates over the last year (or decade, for that matter)! Elections have consequences, and at the end of the day, we lost.
Unless President Trump manages to stay firm and persuade the runaway Republicans in Congress to cooperate
I don't think that's strictly necessary, one option is for Trump to campaign against a "Do Nothing" Congress in 2018. I've been thinking about this since I don't see the current GOPe truly cooperating with Trump, except possibly if they feel their next reelection is in danger. And unless Trump truly does start to "Drain the Swamp", that threat may not look too bad when compared to, for example, Eric Cantor's falling upward into a $3.4 million/year position in an investment bank after he was primaried. I am not a snow flake! I am a social justice WARRIOR.
I hate you all. Snowflake -
That right there is the problem. You hate us. We don't hate you. When you are done throwing your tantrum, we will be here ready to press on and work with you. But don't mistake our tolerance for weakness. No you don't. You don't hate the collective posting as Z
Well then why don' t you grow up and stop acting like a snowflake. Warriors do not throw "Hissy Fits". When my children were young and threw temper tantrums they were sent to their roooms. You may be excused now.
When Obama won, they were all, elections have consequences, and so no compromise on anything. Kinda different now, huh?
They oughta dig up the recordings of Obama and friends' comments regarding their mandate, primacy, and overall wonderfulness.
Then play the recordings back to the Dems who want to second-guess and kibbitz. The "Progressive" / "Social Justice" agenda has been full of it since the beginning. It is just a framework to bully and oppress people.
Until now, folks have been scared of retribution if they say anything. But Trump has shown there is no substance to the "progressive" movement. I think people are going to be increasingly willing now to speak up and to tell the Social Justice Warriors they are full of it and need to just shut the hell up. The American people have just been let out of the cage they have been locked up in for the past 8 years, and they are not happy campers. My girl says all the Trump voters she knows on Faceberg are out in the open today. They weren't before (this is deep blue Portland, ME); they didn't need the aggravation. One had a Trump yard sign but it was stolen.
Today the left is demoralized and on the defensive. Let's keep them there. Some simple processest could grab the imagination of the country and make "Fair" a real word again.
When the government can rob Peter to pay Paul, somebody is going to say "UNfair". If we made the transfer payments a citizen's, every citizen, a base tax credit, then the pie socialists could attack would shrink as they redistributed it. Leftists NEVER account WAGE SLAVES, ie. workers, get W2, 1099-MISC. Welfare,SNAP,Sec8,TAFDC, etcx99, get nothing comparable to a centralized accounting? Chpt 10"1099-GOV" http://mcaf.ee/5gcu7j IF any person that breathes and walked across the border can get $300/month, each member of my family should get that much tax credit, too. Plus 20%..because WE EARNED IT! The left is all about Democracy and The Will of the People,....until Democracy doesn't go their way.
After reading the left's reactions to last night, I want conservatives to realize one thing: last night wasn't a minor disagreement between friends, where we'll just kiss and make up. Last night was a divorce. America divorced the Left, and like any angry losing vengeful psycho spouse, they're just waiting for any opportunity in the future to mess up America badly, chortling to themselves in secret about how clever and deadly their revenge will be while their public face will be nice and sweet and reasonable. The Left WILL NOT have learned their lesson and changed for the better; they will just sink deeper into their psychosis, and brother, will America be sorry if we let them in again.
Change your phone number and all the locks on your doors, America, or you'll come home to find a loved pet cooking in a pot on the stove. Dang --this feels GOOD ! ;-)
If only for a moment! Mr. Kessler--you are spot on on this one. IMHO Trump must quickly and clearly outline the political correct social assaults we have all been forced to deal with and make clear that his presidency will not focus on these issues, but rather put their focus toward integrity in government offices--every single one. They must quickly turn the young people away from special crying rooms on campus and help them to establish an understanding of personal self discipline and integrity in the workplace. I know this is not the biggest issue confronting this country but it will be a good place to start confronting some of the complaints we the people have--complaints that are societal by definition. As for the race issue Trump needs to start a CLEARLY STATED program of carrot rewards. You want your kids fed three meals at school--you show up and do janitor work, or you enroll in basic job skills yourself--there has been too little of that in a particular community. What I am trying to say--we need to address the political correct nonsense with practical clear responses. This will ease much of the tension in this country. We all need to start listing the many failed construction projects that the Obama team spent billions of dollars on and start going after the government contractors who built garbage for hospitals in Iraq, or failed to build schools in Afghanistan, those wind farms that were a democratic party insider feedbag, etc. If you cheated the government -- you get fined, or jailed, either side. If Trump can start to demonstrate an unbiased determination to do that in the first 90 days of his tenure, he might start to really bring both sides together. Before we start to re-build America we must not forget that we need to clean up the mess first! Bring in a team of forensic accountants and start the process of renewing America's image of itself as being honorable in business. I looked up some historical perspective, or is it hysterical
From 1980, the fine professors of Harvard opine: QUOTE: Joseph S. Nye Jr., professor of Government, said he fears that Reagan will prove a "do-nothing" president and that he will not be able to establish "a coherent administration." The United States should fear Reagan because of his "total lack of judgment and reliance on people who are trigger-happy," James C. Thomson, curator of the Nieman fellowships, said. Terming his immediate reaction to the Reagan sweep "absolute horror," Stanley H. Hoffmann, professor of Government, said he believes the nation registered a "protest vote" against the present economic situation. Hoffman, who called himself a "reluctant Carter supporter," said, "I'm afraid on foreign affairs--it could be a very costly experiment." "I think the country is going to be in for a tremendous disappointment because no president can possibly deliver on what President Reagan has promised," Riesman added. Now how did those predictions turn out? Where have we heard them recently. I hope the focus will be long term, robust economic growth that reaches everyone. In addition, I hope that Trump and his team will figure out away to create an environment that enables the emergence of value adding jobs even in the face of globalization and automation. This will be very difficult, but fix this and a lot of other problems just go away or become manageable.
Top Trump promises:
An "impenetrable, physical, tall, powerful, beautiful, southern border wall" and "Mexico to pay for it." "Lock her up!" concerning his political opponent. "A total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States" Withdraw from trade deals, including NAFTA. Start a trade war with China. Renege on NATO commitments. End nuclear deal with Iran. All worthy goals and achievable, although I would not mischaracterize them as you have.
How I would rank them: 1. Prosecute and put Bill and Hillary in prison. And probably a few others like Loretta Lynch and who knows, maybe even her boss? Depends how much they were involved in obstruction of justice and the coverup. We need to make it clear we are a nation of laws, and public corruption will not be tolerated but will be severely punished, no matter how important you are. 3. Invalidate the Clinton Foundation's 501(c)(3) status and confiscate its assets. Go after those who can be shown to have laundered money through the foundation for tax fraud. 2. Build the wall and make Mexico pay for it. If they balk, cut off trade with them. Enforce our existing immigration laws and require those here illegally to leave. 3. Stop immigration without verification. 4. Kill Obamacare. 5. Declare all deals which Obama got us into which were not properly ratified by the Senate invalid. 6. Renegotiate other trade deals in our country's favor. 7. Make our allies pay a fair share of defense costs. Nicely said.
I note proper ratification requires ⅔ Senate approval, which the lame duck congress may try to avoid with TPP before Trump is sworn in. The Supreme Court appointments are extremely important, for jurists who have a fiduciary respect for the country and its existing constitution not what they make up. This is one of the most important Trump promises Zach the cute little hypnotized hamster left out. Limit H1B immigration, and block all H1B and other job-stealing immigration where there are qualified US citizens. Require that the burden of proof that there are no qualified US citizens be on the H1B importer, with significant penalties for discrimination against US citizens. Require that no more than 25% of STEM graduate student funding go to non-US citizen students at any university, or all grant funding will be halted. Any rejected US citizen may bring suit. Trump needs to shut down the taxpayer financing for institutions that are destroying us. For example, stop the $500 million to the snide NPR, stop funding university sociology departments (as the Japanese have done) and the "studies" departments (gender, queer, social justice, etc) or require such sociology and psychology funding to come from the national endowment for the arts because these are propaganda arts, not science. Let them fight for a small amount of funds with the artists. If students still want to major in SJWarriorism, they can pay full tuition cost. Eliminate payment for "diversity" and other unnecessary gigantic overhead in university grants. University "administrative overhead" has grown immensely, while academic costs have stayed the same for decades. Return control to teaching faculty. No need for a trade war. They're not Democrats over there; they're adults. They don't fly into an insane narcissistic rage if you insist on not getting screwed. You can do business with adults.
Not with Democrats, though. We're just going to destroy you evil clowns. Fuck NAFTA, NATO's obsolete, Muslim immigrants are a net negative for the country. Nothing in any of that for us, so "thanks but no thanks" -- we're not their mother, we owe them nothing if we get nothing. Other countries are actual countries. Big boys with principal exports and highway systems and a gross national product. They'll be fine. Really. Dry your tears. Goddamn NATO. WTF. Are you people insane? Are you stupid? Were you even born when the Soviet Union collapsed? NATO has no reason to exist now. It's not a religious commandment, it's not in the Constitution (like you give a shit about that scrap of paper anyway); it was a mutually beneficial arrangement at the time. That time has ended. We've been occupying Germany since 1945. The war's over, guys. Hitler lost, did you hear the news? Bring 'em home. Idiotic waste of money. We can't afford that foolishness. That goes for the rest of the world too. Nobody's threatening Okinawa. As for locking Hillary up, well, she's a multiple felon. But I like to be fair to people, so let's give her the same presumption of innocence she wants to offer men accused of sexual assault or cops accused of self defense: None. Hang the crooked bitch from the nearest lamppost. As a guy who advocates rule by arbitrary decree and total immunity from prosecution for all prominent Democrats, you sure have developed a hell of a commitment to rule of law in a hell of a hurry. Funny how lefties suddenly get that way when they're not the ones in power. But why do you even care? She's useless now, and let's be honest, you know as well as the rest of us do that she's a repulsive sociopath. If you caught fire in front of her she'd just wrinkle her nose. Wilbur Hassenfus: Fuck NAFTA, NATO's obsolete
Yeah. It's been a while since the NATO alliance has been invoked, way back, um, on September 12, 2001. The NATO mission in Afghanistan lasted from 2003-2014, resulting in over a thousand casualties from allied nations (excluding the U.S.). Wilbur Hassenfus: As a guy who advocates rule by arbitrary decree and total immunity from prosecution for all prominent Democrats That is incorrect. The rule of law should apply to everyone equally. Wilbur Hassenfus: Hang the crooked bitch from the nearest lamppost. Thank you for providing the example of misogyny and lack of respect for the legal process. It resolves the question as to the role of bigotry in the recent election. Will Bithers: hey loser, how does it feel?
That's a question for the American people to decide, having just elected an unrepentant bigot as president. Answer the question I asked. You people are used to evading questions, but not now.
I understand you can't or won't think for yourself, but now, I'm asking you how you feel about being a complete, total, utter loser. Will Bithers: how does it feel?
The Americans can elect anyone they want as president — even an unrepentant bigot.

Will Bithers: another evasion
Not at all. The Americans can elect anyone they want as president — even an unrepentant bigot. That's how we feel. Will Bithers: the voters bitchslapped your girl If you mean Clinton, she is not "our girl". Truth is "our girl".

Zach-get-real, it is time for you to head to the playground where I am quite sure we will find you on the liberal merry go round crying for you mommy because you don't know how to get off.
If he builds the wall (most of it that can be built), repairs the military, Appoints three conservative Supremes and enforces our immigration laws we will be so much better off than we would be with the unindicted co-conspirator.
The gravy on all this will be if he appoints a number of special prosecutors to investigate Hillary and a half dozen cabinet level departments. Please mister Trump dig out the dirt and prosecute these vermin who have stolen our rights and our money. It seemed symbolic to me that it was the state of Pennsylvania the birthplace of American Democracy where Government of the people, by the people, for the people, was founded, was the state that took Trump over the top.
Well done America. |
