Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

How dumb does Washington think you are?


A pair of academics at Johns Hopkins tried something new — polling Washington about Americans. What they found was a combination of ignorance, contempt and disdain.


Yes, our moral and intellectual superiors. Public servants.  It reminds me of the old saying about Ma Bell, when she ran the US phone network:  Why don't you care about me, the customer? Because we don't have to.

But Ma Bell did care about the customer, you just think "customer" and user are the same, but they are not. In any monopoly, or captured regulatory system the "customers" are the politicians who oversee the agency/monopolist, and the high level internal agency/monopolist bureaucrats.

The end user is an annoyance, which must be tolerated because he occasionally has the power to stir up a hornets nest among the actual customers. And that is bad!
