Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

9-11 was not Pearl Harbor, but the world would be a more pleasant place if these ardent Muslims dedicated themselves to more constructive secular pursuits rather than killing Westerners, Jews, and eachother. Theirs is a mission and a holy purpose, and many people want their life to mean something dramatic. Furthermore, killing and blowing things up is so easy that anybody can do it. Checking out, in a blaze of glory. Theirs is not a Western culture. It has different cultural premises and assumptions, and, like cockroaches in a building, they will never be eliminated. All I want is to keep them out of my life and to let them wreak havoc, if they must, in their own habitat. Israel can take care of itself very well. Islamophobia? I'll confess to a mild case of that due to reading the news. It might not be fair, but I am human with healthy tribal instincts. They have managed to make themselves my bogeymen and I do not like to ride airplanes with them. This from David Warren on Fifteen Years:
The Caliphate, today, is more likely to be achieved by immigration than by terror or armies. Charles Martel is dead. Merkel and Hollande are alive. The News Junkie: It might not be fair, but I am human with {un}healthy tribal instincts. {Extremists} have managed to make {innocent people} my bogeymen ...
In the moment, people sometimes forget the strength of Western culture. It's why a kid in Beijing wears a I❤NY cap, or why a Kenyan goat herder uses his smart phone to check commodity prices, or why the whole world, including most of the Muslim world, mourned on 9/11/2001. The cultural hegemony of the West is undermining traditional institutions in many countries, threatening fundamentalist values. Despite the damage it causes to human lives, terrorism does not represent an existential threat to the West, which is an idea far greater than anything in the comprehension of the terrorists. I don't know from existential, but Jihad will never be a threat to Western civilization in the way that Marx is.
I like to think that the most jihadists can do is kill us. I don't see them overtaking our culture. They seem to be overtaking Europe, but Europe is way over due for starting a world wide disaster. They tend to do that every couple generations. That may stir things up a bit. I hope we are more culturally sound than Europe. Marxists, on the other hand, are posing a true threat to existence. There are tens of millions of Americans that embrace socialist views. For a century our culture has been slowly changing for the worse. It's this group that allows the jihadist movement to exist in the world. I see the rise in Fundamentalist Islam as a symptom of our problems, not a cause. They've always believed what they believe. They haven't always had the power to spread their beliefs. Jack Walter: I don't know from existential, but Jihad will never be a threat to Western civilization in the way that Marx is.
Quite so. Communism offered a utopian vision of the future. However, communism has largely been discredited, and it is no longer the threat to the West it once was. Even on the anniversary, the very day, you pop out like a case of explosive diarrhea, mitigating for maniacs and Muslim killers.
If I could reach through and smack the shit out of you, it'd be a pleasure. Scullman: mitigating for maniacs and Muslim killers.
Huh? You may want to read that again. Terrorism was an "existential threat" to the 343 FDNY and 26 NYPD and the innocents in my city, you fucking asshole.
What don't you take a day off from being a dip-shit know it all. We provide a paean to the strength and vitality of the West, and you read this as "mitigating for maniacs".
Scullman: Terrorism was an "existential threat" to the 343 FDNY and 26 NYPD Which is why we referred to "the damage it causes to human lives"; however, as we also said, terrorism is not an existential threat to Western civilization, "which is an idea far greater than anything in the comprehension of the terrorists." Not an existential threat? These lunatics are the reason I am treated like a common criminal every time I go to the airport, sporting event or any other type of public event. They have murdered thousands of innocent people. They continue to plot to murder thousands more. And you people in the Zach Borg, continue to be apologists for them.
B Hammer: These lunatics are the reason I am treated like a common criminal every time I go to the airport, sporting event or any other type of public event.
Your inconvenience hardly represents an existential threat to Western Civilization. The attacks on 9-11 weren't even an existential threat to a single city, New York, the people of which recovered and rebuilt. New York is still the most economically and culturally dynamic city in the world. B Hammer: They have murdered thousands of innocent people. They continue to plot to murder thousands more. Of course. Most of those victims will be Muslims, of course, but the terrorists will continue to mount attacks against the West. B Hammer: continue to be apologists for them. Hardly. Terrorism is the tactic of the weak. They offer nothing but death and destruction. Their ideas are anathema to the vast majority of people. They will ultimately fail, as have such threats in the past. Wretch has a good piece on the date over at Belmont Club.
QUOTE: The Obama era was an attempt to supersede the old methods with a system where only negotiations between the power elites were permissible to resolve problems. That was the theory at least. Unfortunately this method too is failing. It has failed to secure the future of the EU. It has failed to secure the Middle East, even the safety and existence of Saudi Arabia. It threatens to fail catastrophically in Asia. It has failed everywhere. It did not restore the anticipated stability. All it gave us was the Forever War. Now, as the Obama era ends, it is apparent that the exhausted system is wholly out of ideas. It is an impotent failure which can prevent neither another future September 11,2001 nor indeed a future September 1, 1939. https://pjmedia.com/richardfernandez/2016/09/11/the-fifteenth-september-11/?singlepage=true "...weren't even an existential threat to a single city, New York..."
I guess by that same comparison, the Berlin Wall, where they shot you if you tried to leave, wasn't terroristic control on a grand scale. Though I guess the comparison stands, as New York is till strong 15 years later, and the former East Germany is said to still be struggling to catch up. Jerry: I guess by that same comparison, the Berlin Wall, where they shot you if you tried to leave, wasn't terroristic control on a grand scale.
U.S. law defines terrorism as "Premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents, usually intended to influence an audience." Jerry: New York is till strong 15 years later That's right. Terrorism is not an existential threat to NYC, much less Western Civilization. The terrorists will ultimately fail because they have nothing to offer. I'm not sure which is which is worse. That you are congenitally stupid or if it a conscious choice. Keep on thinking the a$$hole screaming Allah Akbar won't kill you too.
dcjuggler: Keep on thinking the a$$hole screaming Allah Akbar won't kill you too.
You need to get out more. A billion Muslims peacefully recite the Takbīr only to honor God. Since 2001, it is hundreds of times more likely for someone in the U.S. to have died from gun homicide than terrorism. And those dying in the US of gunshot wounds almost always happen in inner city neighborhoods where morons like you have elected and continue to elect liberals who throw money at problems instead of solving them. Then you apologize for the killers by blaming people like me and say to take our guns away. Horse bleep. The problem in the inner cities is the lack of personal responsibility writ large. Fathers abandon their families to the welfare state. Killers make neighborhoods unlivable, businesses leave. Blame whites and conservatives for not stopping it. Rinse. Repeat. Never mind that morons like you not only block our efforts, but you blame the very people who would solve them after you have blocked those efforts.
How does it feel to take Soros' money and destroy the world while doing it?

And most of those billion muslims don't condemn terrorism and honor allah who calls himself "the greatest of deceivers." Meanwhile the "palestinians" are teaching their kids to hate jews and encourage them to kill jews. Why? Because they laughed at the murderous mohamed when he declared himself a prophet. Seems like you're the one who needs to get out more.

given the facts brought to light in the last 15yrs. i can't wrap my head around the western intelligence communities didn't connect the dots . the 9/11 official story don't pass the smell test, imo .
Here's my take on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of September 11, with a bit of a film review thrown in for good measure...
EVERYTHING the United States needed to know about islam we learned on 9/11. Period.
All islams are considered moderate until they blow you up with an IED. "In one of most needed but totally un-PC comments of 2016, historian Michael Ledeen remarks that 'Muslim civilization is a failure. There were more books translated into Spanish in the last year than into Arabic in the last thousand years. You’re dealing with a failed culture.'”
Andrew Cummins once said, in a quote often misattributed to Christopher Hitchens, that Islamophobia is “a word created by fascists, and used by cowards, to manipulate morons.”
Same could be said for homophobia, transphobic, and many other newer entries into the modern lexicon...
