We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
For me the hardest part is proofreading. If you want to self publish then you either need to pay a professional proofreader or do it yourself. I've had a few friends read my first book, two of them actually managed to find the time to finish it. - If it were just reading it would be no problem - it's stopping to make corrections and notations - all of a sudden it's work.
Solar Storm is about 160,000 words - that's about 530 pages. I'm in the process of reading it out loud - to myself. You can't skim, you can't gloss over words - you have to look at and say each word - it works but it's tough when you've not only written the book but you've also read it more than 30 times.
I will say that it seems to be getting easer. Hopefully Solar Storm will be available for sale in a few months. And I've got a good start on three other books. I just needt to decide which to focus on once I publish Solar Storm.
Somewhat off topic, however, a big thank you for recommending 'Act One' by Moss Hart a while back. Fantastic book, even though I have no interest whatsoever in the theater, I'm finding the book and Mr. Hart himself a delightful and entertaining read.
