Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

The author ignores the effects of colonialism. Until the 20th century, Britain and other European powers openly opposed industrialization in the colonies, including the American colonies, while also setting up crony leaderships. This resulted in severe economic distortions.
On Mao -
Excellent book written several years ago by a Chinese journalist who went into the records and did the hard research to document how many, where, why it happened, etc. I can't remember the name of the book, unfortunately. I remember the 45 million deaths from the book. The take-away, at least for me, is that Mao as a Communist, would rather allow his people to starve and die, then ask for help. That's not the sign of any good leader I know. More importantly, I think it says a lot about Communism and its dis-regard for human life. Funny, because by definition, they are most are not Christians, so they can't believe in eternal life. Not sure where that gets them. HRC
So now it begins. I will be really curious to see if the DNC has anything up their sleeve to counter DJT. Heaven knows, given the team, I have a low bar and expect them to be as reactive, sclerotic, ham handed, and as out of touch as the GOPe. I turn off the ads so they don’t reach me, but maybe there are still enough chumps out there to prevail with enough money. I can’t imagine that there will be any deftness or finesse. Thus far, all the trolls are doubling down on the shrill shrew character assassination of decades past, so nothing savvy or sharp there; it seems, for reasons I don’t quite understand, counter productive. It’s been 6 months, for Pete’s sake; have they learned anything? The Dems and Hillary have lots of crooked history as crooked politicians selling "favors" and tax money and laws, and government positions and appointments for actual money, to enrich themselves. Trump likely has had little opportunity at corruption - except for bribing corrupt politicians as a necessity to do business. So there is likely little real scandal to dig up about Trump. What there is, the russians and chinese got when they hacked the dems anti-trump records.
However, there is massive evidence of hillary corruption, clinton foundation corruption, dem congressional corruption, and dem national committee corruption. Trump should continue to call for release of the hacked records and point out that if the russians and chinese (or other hackers) do not release the hacked records, it is because crooked hillary has made a treasonous deal with them, or the hackers are saving it to blackmail her if she is elected. If the released records show crooked hillary's emails are not about yoga, but instead show linkage of state department favors with "donations" to the clinton crime family foundation, she is VERY bribable and blackmailable. It is likely that the purloined email and other records show republican complicity and "pay-for-play corruption, which may explain the refusal of congressional investigation to actually investigate. I think the Borg that is Zach, is having software issues today. Note the link below to a fifty year old cartoon. Defending the crooked clintons may have caused over heating issues. Maybe some of the renewable energy sources are down now. Current draw was to high.
There appears to be a tag team of Hillary trolls on the Althouse blog. If you were expecting more than throwing spaghetti against the wall to see what sticks, think again. It might work better on a blog that caters to those with the mental age of a college freshman, not cynical lawyers who have been around the block and know how the game is played.
It seems that Donald Trump makes some cringeworthy, outrageous remark which has them salivating that at last they have got him, and then it falls flat. They wind up looking like caricatures of the worst Republican conspiracy theorist while Donald Trump yet again sucks away all the energy. Is that how it works, is that a strategy? Is it something only a Donald Trump can do? Today I saw a headline on Yahoo claiming that Trump attracts “White Trash”. Does this have a familiar ring to it? There were a flurry of these themes in February/March. A prominent NR pundit made the same claim albeit obliquely by saying that Trump prevailed in the counties that had the highest unemployment, drug use, welfare, and the lowest education levels.
Will it work for the DNC, even though it didn’t work for the GOPe? It seems to have a couple of potential outcomes. If the meme was widely believed, Trump support would be anonymous and less detectable by polling, ala Bexit. Or, if Trump support is forced to remain below the surface it would serve to reinforce the illusion that there is no wave or Trump preference cascade. I don’t know what the rest of you are seeing, but here in southern NH, I am not seeing bumper stickers, or yard signs, nor are people chatting about this at work. "France has two options"
The problem is they have already passed the tipping point. I'm not sure that France (the french people born in France of French parents) can prevail in a civil war. The numbers of people living in France who consider themselves to be something other than "French" is huge. I'm not sure many of those people will choose to back the "native" French in any kind of civil war. France has made the terrible mistake of having massive immigration for decades and it is unlikely that they can now either stop it or reverse it even if they resort to violent civil war. IMHO France is "French toast". I agree GWTW. Much of Europe will be sharing the same fate as France. Merkel continues to pour fuel on the fire.
"We should not close our borders".
We should close our borders and put the guard on the border, place a moratorium on all immigration including that mandated by the UN, actively and vigorously enforce our immigration laws and seek and deport illegals and send home anyone who doesn't belong here. We should implement controls such that we know who comes into the country and when they leave. We should place limits on how long non-citizens can stay in-country, perhaps less than 180 days a year. We should end the practice of hiring non-citizens. It would save us hundreds of billions, improve the economy, cut crime in half, in other words it would be a good thing. The claim among the teaching schools is they can teach anything. I first heard this from a university Physics professor whose department was fighting off such a claim. This teacher may have precedent on her side as schools often have Algebra teachers who can't do Algebra. And few college graduates, much less those credentialed as teachers, are knowledgeable in American history or civil government. So this is why I love MF. I have now waltzed through, multiple times, Milton Friedman's "Tyranny of the State Quo" to refresh my brain cells when I first heard this fascinating lecture.
Agree or disagree with Friedman, he is a master of discussion. We have idiots leading our talk shows today. Brooks has added nothing, nada, zilch to the questions still on the table. |
