Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Does one need any further evidence that liberalism is a mental disorder, than the racial quota for parks story? The fact that there are people out there that actually go and count faces, assign race to these faces, and then get disturbed by how many white faces there are, is mind blowing. Sick!
Fifty years out of The Great Society with it's never ending programs and we have more ticked off minorities than ever. Thanks to The Big 0 who has spent his entire career dividing for the purpose of conquering. Not one segment of our society is working correctly except for entitlements.
Liberalism is a mental disorder
Classical liberalism is the advance state of civilization. We just can't seem to remain in that state, but rather quickly return to a lower energy state, usually by releasing liberties. Re: Sotomayor is the court loon
But... But... You mean the "wise Latina" she mentioned in her confirmation hearings was really someone else?! re Obama administration begins redistributing poor inner-city families to suburbs.
Wow. Not the article I expected. Who ever wrote it is in the tank for the program. From reading the article it is the perfect solution. Government shells out enormous sums for houses in affluent neighborhoods using proxies to keep the neighbors from finding out. Then they are rented to impecunious blacks at a loss. Poor black mothers and their kids magically start behaving like they are middle class. Zero increase in crime and whites don't even realize they are there. What could possibly go wrong? Magic dirt theory....Yea, they will have a brand new outlook on life by moving a couple of miles to a new neighborhood where they have nothing vested but your tax money.
HUD also is moving poor families (as in a mother with four to six kids) into gold coast high-rises where the rent for a three-bedroom tops $3000/month and the family contributes $165 - 225/mo. Highrises are not only difficult places for children to live, but by having absolutely minimal investment in that property, the inhabitants have no interest in taking care of the place.
But, the liberal policy is "anything to redistribute wealth in its many ramifications." Screw the taxpayer! re: sending poor families from the cities to the suburbs. This is an extension of the delusional laws and practices that lead up to the housing bubble popping. The delusion is that if you get folks set up with "middle class stuff" they will start acting like "middle class people". Unfortunately, as usual the progs have the effect coming before the cause. If people act like middle class people: go to work every morning on time, work like they mean it, save, spend in careful ways, take care of their responsibilities etc then they will have middle class "stuff": houses, cars, etc. Giving the poor middle class "stuff" doesn't make them middle class any more than moving black families from a black-majority inner city ghetto to w white majority suburb will get the blacks to stop killing each other. Racist? Call me what you like, but the truth is the truth.
Brexit:
Bookies Say It’s Almost All Over as Gamblers See No Brexit QUOTE: Bookies and gamblers are strengthening in their conviction that the U.K. will opt to remain in the European Union, as polls show a swing away from a so-called Brexit. QuickTake Will Britain Leave the EU? Ladbrokes Plc said Tuesday that the odds on a “Remain” vote had shortened to a 2/9 chance, indicating an 82 percent probability. Brexit opponents may win with 50 percent to 55 percent of the vote, wagers on the Betfair exchange suggest. “As far as the money’s concerned, it looks like Brexit is beginning to fall at the final hurdle,” Jessica Bridge, a spokeswoman for Ladbrokes, said in an e-mailed statement. The company said late Monday that some 95 percent of all referendum wagers in the previous 24 hours had been placed on voters rejecting Brexit. “Money talks, and it’s one-way traffic from ‘Remain’ punters.” Polls released since the killing of pro-EU campaigner Jo Cox have suggested the “Remain” camp is gaining ground, producing the swing back toward the vote to stay that bookies and gamblers anticipated before her death. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-06-21/bookies-say-it-s-almost-all-over-as-gamblers-see-brexit-rejected How sad! I guess freedom and liberty aren't important to people now a days! I just hate to watch people throw something so valuable away voluntarily.
Yes indeed, mudbug. Who knows if they will ever get another opportunity to vote for leaving again?
I don't understand. It boggles my feeble mind. But to expand on that thought, so much of it does. Just look at today's discouraging links here at MF: 1) Yale intends to water down their coursework. 2) College is unaffordable for most. 3) Racial in equality in National parks, the regulators' work is never done. 4) A Dem Senator using ignorance and demagoguery to advance the argument to take away our second amendment rights. 5) An Attorney General that babbles nonsense as an anti-terror strategy. 6) Illegal aliens and the implication that they vote. 7) Using taxpayer money to relocate dem voters to suburbia. 8) Another link on over regulation, because the regulators' work is never done. 9) A lawless supreme court justice 10) A media that is in the tank for tyranny/totalitarianism 11) A serial criminal running for POTUS. 12) Dems attacking a new company employing 1000s - uber. And close to half the country is good with all this. I despair. What chance do we have? I despair, too, and I my comments weren't confined to the Brits or Europeans in general. As you note, our recent history isn't much better. In fact, given the fact that we've been watching all the ideas of the left destroy lives as well as Western Civilization as a whole, and there is still substantial support for those ideas, I'd argue that we are arguably in worse shape.
I haven't looked through this yet, but perhaps there are some here at Maggie's that may want to rummage through this site:
Dossier on Hillary Clinton from DNC https://guccifer2.wordpress.com/2016/06/21/hillary-clinton/ Our slightly distant relationship with the EU has served us well so I'm happy to remain. The immigrants we should worry about are not our Polish and Spanish neighbours even though people are using immigration as the main reason to leave.
Jeanne Shaheen is my Senator. Arggh. To think we voted out one of the few people in the Senate with any training in math or science whatsoever (Sununu) to put that cipher in place. (BTW, it is illuminating to look at the educational and employment backgrounds of elected Republicans compared to Democrats.)
As for Lynch and compassion, love, and unity being our best weapons, some reasonable people have made the argument that in the longest of long runs, that is true. I am not convinced myself, but there is at least partial evidence that avoiding violence and seeking common ground is a foundation of Western Civ. However, it is not an infallible strategy, especially in the short run. More importantly, Jesus never taught that it was a strategy for general chumminess, so that Greeks and Romans and Jews and Persians could all get along together. That is a significant twisting of his words that has only become popular in the last century or two. If you buy an AR-15, obviously you’re “buying it do bad things”
...and if you buy a private server and use your private email for government business, you're "buying it to do bad things." One of the things I studied when I was lifting weights was developmental and comparative anatomy.
Here is one thing I learned: if you test a man and a woman of the same height, weight, and conditioning, the man will have about twice as much upper body strength as the woman (testosterone can be your friend). Even with extensive training, the vast majority of women will never have upper-body strength that is comparable to men's. So the fact that about 90% of the women are being weeded out of the combat fitness standards is actually physiologically correct... |
