We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
There is noone I would rather see as Press Secretary than the affable, warm, witty and relaxed Tony Snow. A superb human.
The administration is in desperate need of a good spokeman and a good salesman. He will be that, and more. I have no doubt that he will speak up at meetings.
FOX's loss will be The White House's gain.
There will be a pay cut, and he'll have to move his family, and he had a nasty bout with a GI cancer last year, but who could turn down such an exciting opportunity? He'll accept the job: his country needs him, and I am sure he'd rather be a doer than a talker.
Sorry to be a damper, but I read an op-ed piece by Tony Snow in Townhall a while back and he was spewing the party line on illegal immigration. This in itself might not be a critical factor in serving as press secretary, but, it means one less channel for opinions from the conservative base to penetrate the White House.
Tony will certainly not hear any rational arguments on illegal immigration, blanket amnesty, or free citizenship from the White House reporters.
I wish President Bush would reach out for some diversity of opinion in his appointments.
