Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

GOPe
I don’t get why they think the little people should vote for them. Isn’t that what this cycle is about; the regular working folks are declining to vote for those who demean them and who support policies that undermine their well being? The GOPe wasn’t even savvy enough to adjust their message but doubled down on hostility toward these voters. If it wasn’t already obvious the Beltway pols, the consultants, the lobbyists, the pundits, the media, and academia prioritize and serve every other interest group over them, even the bizarre. 15 blue states? Trumka has already sounded the alarm. Does anyone have any insights into what Trump is being accused of regarding the Veteran donations? I am guessing, but after the rally, I assume it would take 4-8 weeks for the monies to dribble in, in order to have the funds on hand and to have a sense of the actual final tally. The monies don't just appear instantly, do they? Then, I assume those soliciting funding have to request the paperwork and submit proposals in response to some sort of deadline. I don't know how long it would take to verify and negotiate with various appropriate organizations as to how the money would be used etc., but, 4-8 weeks doesn't seem all that outlandish. Bottom line, I would expect it to take 10-16 weeks before disbursement. Anyone know how this compares to other similar efforts?
10-16 weeks is lightning fast compared to the government grant programs I used to write proposals and applications for. That was in the '70s-'90s. Bet it's even slower now.
I, too, am amazed at how quickly Trump has designated organizations and dispersed monies, and particularly impressed by the diverse groups who are benefitting from this largesse. While some such as Fisher House are probably set up to comply with the paperwork, other smaller groups seem to be shocked that they were considered and actually received funding.
The media is panicked over this man's rise to candidacy and are making fools of themselves. While one could find a billion topics to bring down Clinton by turning over one rock, they are looking under pebbles to find something on Trump. Bueller? Bueller? Just as a comparison, because I was involved in the Eighties and Nineties on the board of a charity that received directed donations through United Way, it was usually between a year and year and a half from the time the donor made the directed donation through United Way and the time we actually received it from United Way. We always assumed they were playing with the float in the investment markets.
Yes, this is all total crap against Trump. The loss-of-free-speech articles seem long on speculation. The idea seems to be "well, they could use statements like this as dodges to hide something more nefarious, so we are sure that they are actually planning nefarious things." Lots of side comments about related subjects to get the blood boiling.
1996-98: nearly a million "lost" West wing emails.
True but the real story is that these emails could have been recovered. You can bet your ass if it had been Nixon's White House they would have gone to the effort to recover those emails. What happened is the entire Democrat party locked arms and protected the Clintons and a sympathetic press corp covered up for the Clintons. What we have is a Clinton crime family as part of the Democrat mafia getting away with murder, literally. "Facebook, Twitter Banning Free Speech to Form Virtual “Superstate” "
There is a lot of throwing about "fascism" these days. But if we look at Silicon Valley we see that the "elite" there are primed and ready to be the business side of a fascist state QUOTE: Much of Silicon Valley is based on government funding, whether it be basic research or education or outreach for free trade the internet requires pretty substantial government involvement. ... I found crucial to what is distinct between libertarians and valley folk that Silicon Valley’s ideology is pro-market but it is not pro-liberty. Liberty is not a value. They are highly, highly, collectivist. They believe that every single person has a positive obligation to society and the government can help people or coerce people or incentive into making a unique contribution. Listening to a recent Uncommon Knowledge interview with Charles Koch, I was surprised to learn that although he was supporting libertarian causes, he became in partisan politics to oppose the growth of government and discretionary spending under George W. QUOTE: The measures are ostensibly intended to target Muslim extremists. But “hate speech” is whatever the progressives in charge say it is. enjoy the fantasy ride down the slippery slope. "free speech" is not code for first amendment style protection in articles like this. The females of our species are wired to seek out a high status male, with whom they build a life-long bond. From the point of view of nature, this guarantees the greatest chance of reproductive success. Since it is vastly easier for a young adult female to land a suitable mate than it is for a middle-aged female, getting married early makes the most sense. Sure, the man could be a dud, but there are no guarantees in life.
This reductionist bullshit follows the great inversion: Rightists adopting the odd Darwinian Nihilism flowing from the fanciful Big Bangist Science! of Evolution that short-circuit Minds and with it, human transcendence. It's not in your head anymore, your identity and your will, but in your genes and your jeans. Remarkable how un-thought the rote acceptance of this crap is, especially from ostensibly conservative, traditionalist organs whose general mindset all but universally hews, if only tacitly, to themes about personal awareness and responsibility, classic social mores and accountability, intellectual gender equality within a righteous ethics matrix, and especially the great abstracts of love and idealism specifically aimed at celebrating gender differences while maintaining durable frameworks expressly designed to partner them in a greater, idealized whole. "And the two shall become one" had once been a calling card for what's been set aside today in favor of biological fatalism, simple bargaining, and the depravity of the conditional, opportunistic, physicalized hook-up. They're in it to procreate like it's all they're capable of grasping. But as goes trendy rightism so goes the need to be seen as Scientifically! fashionable, in step, with-the-times, and generally hipper than the puritanical socialism currently sweeping the progressive left, with its enormous load of inescapable, intolerant, socially moral, sexist, genderist baggage. Rightist biological fatalism must proudly oppose the social progressive left, even if it means abandoning reason and thought or co-opting a portion of what it thinks it resists. So here come our rightists, intent on seeing themselves as more progressive, liberal, and open-minded, and off they go into this bizarre, vaguely Darwinian neofatalism where men are instinctual, sperm-spraying automatons and women are striving, opportunistic, fertile Valkyries, together to stride off and forge paganistic social frameworks based on fertility signalling and rites, survivalism, and purely instinctive pecking orders. Conservatives indulge this biological Nihilism, even using it to lifestyle-signal their relaxed new worldliness. We're not nearly as uptight as we used to be, see? It is bullshit, of course, and purveyors like this Z-Man, whatever it is, have bought into it as surely as that associated, arrogant closed-mindedness drips from the page with it. It's all the rage; the hip new thing embraced by toughguys and the surly, sexualized womenfolk hung from their gunbelts and handlebars. Here, everybody's in it for something and it sure ain't gonna be unfashionable. you're only trying to engineer brain-compatible aesthetics through the collaborative process. for the technology-infused metacognitive interfaces, through cognitive disequilibrium, we will repurpose performance-based trans-disciplinarity.

You'll just never really grasp how the reification of post-capitalist hegemony recapitulates the systemization of the gendered body. Admit this and be at peace.

"Gin and cheeseburgers are proof God loves us."
-Respected Founding Father and national cultural referential placeholder I agree with you today, Ten. I get awfully tired of the "females are biologically hardwired to seek out high-status males" meme. A woman with a desire for status and no ability to seek her own might well desire to put all her chips on her man's status. Lots of healthier women either don't care that much about status or get it for themselves, which luckily leaves them free to choose a mate on the basis of his character and other attractive traits. Status-chasing women have always (and somewhat justly) been the target of contempt--we call them golddiggers--and the idea that they're biologically predestined to adopt this life style is really pretty disgusting.
Yeah, but Texan, if we're going to adopt all the wonderful Sciencey! truths of the Six Days of the Big Bang, the trend a trendy God intended for 21st Century rightist lifestyling church-goers, then we have to accept that we're just biological predeterminists lacking free will except to pump iron Harleys, drown deserving animals in tangy sauces, and worship at the 70" LED throne of the 'Merican lifestyle. Call it the evolved Xtian believer in a works-by-salvation theological paradigm, the very height of spiritual pleasure.
From there it's just a small step to chicks-dig-alphas, God's Plan writ as large and self-evident as righteous consumerism and goodly holy sarging the congregated faithful with attractive muscle groups. With good clean cultural conservationalism like that, who needs Xtian humility or that dodgy old "new heavens and a new earth" at the "end of days" and whatnot. Onward biologically-hardwired Christian domination and sly looks! Well, then, when you get on the anti-Christian caricatures, you leave me behind. Christians of my acquaintance don't fit this pattern. Obviously people of any religion, traditional or New-Agey leftist, can get into this kind of troubled mental territory.
Not anti-Christian, Texas, anti-psuedo Christian. Anti-rightist, anti-lifestyling, anti-socially narcissistic, anti-social-signalling, anti-clique Xtians, who from my experience, haven't as much to recommend themselves to Christianity and vice versa as to phariseeism.
I'm not painting with too broad a brush. The central tenet of Christianity is the humility of conviction. "For I am the greatest of sinners."

Not helping. If your intent is to show that some Christians fall short of what you consider true Christianity to be, especially in the articles of kindness and humility, you're adopting the wrong argument style.

of what you consider true Christianity to be
Well, that's not loaded at all, is it? In other words, Christ never said what Christ said. And the best way to win converts is to bullshit them. Is that helping? And would anybody dredge for converts here? Maybe if you defined what it is you think I'm doing first...
