We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Thanks for the reference, as I was not a country music fan when this happened.
On a similar note, my granddaughters learned about death in childbirth and epidemics when we visited the cemetery yesterday. Well, I'm not sure the five year old absorbed that much, but the almost- nine-year old did.

Loved me some Strang Bane. Whenever he'd come on the TV I'd tear into the room. Got pretty good at emulating his famous hat flip too.
Sam Bush wrote a song about the murder of Stringbean and his wife Estelle. I hadn't known about that until I heard the song on a Transatlantic Sessions CD I bought. Here's a Youtube video of him performing the song:
