Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

The "Who's Teaching Us Coalition" is guilty of cultural appropriation by even enrolling at a university, but now they want to appropriate it even further by controlling it.
It's colonialism at its worst. It's disgusting. This coalition is an organization of despots that with imperial ambitions, taking over and destroying other cultures. It violates the principles and policies of free speech, freedom of expression and scholarship. It needs to be kicked off Stanford's campus and every other university. From the morons in SLO (Cal Poly) "Sadly, without an action plan ingrained with substance and accountability, the Cal Poly administration may not share our vision.”
An action plan with substance and accountability? What a good idea! I was relieved to read that the diversity plan was What I wonder is will we see the schools become fractured between the sciences and the "liberal" arts or are the sciences headed for another dark age? Cal Poly is focused on engineering, agriculture, and business. This is a case of the Left perverting yet another institution.
Shame on the administration for degrading the school's mission with this crap. And I say that as a Cal Poly graduate, MBA '96. Regarding "four-foot butts". Can we call it what it really is?

Does your routine include 2,000 squats per day? This is like the guys that overtrain their biceps. Classic proportions these are not. The ancient Greeks would be mortified. Is this a cultural phenomena? Vaxxed:
What a shame. More than a shame a crime against humanity. Vaccines are responsible for saving perhaps two-three billion lives in the short history of vaccinations. Not to mention the suffering that would have been inflicted on the survivors of many of these childhood diseases. It was little more than 100 years ago that it was common for families to lose half of their children before age 5 to simple childhood diseases. Today this can be prevented by a simple series of vaccinations. I have sympathy for anyone whose child suffers or seems to suffer from symptoms that appeared in early childhood and I can certainly understand how easy it would be to associate that with something, anything that happened to your child. But either through ignorance or malice the war on vaccines are a crime against humanity and specifically children. I would ask any parent opposed to vaccines which of these many childhood diseases do you want your child to catch? Donald Trump faces his biggest threat yet: himself
Yes. Since his campaign took off, it has become quite clear that the only real threat to Donald's success is Donald himself. And the dozens of PACs and the GOP itself...When have you ever seen a GOP front runner so attacked by its own party?
Remember, Trump has ZERO PACs. Or maybe ONE that has just started up by Trump supporters. Pretty amazing how far he has come without them. And pretty telling about the GOP itself...why are they so freaked out by a Trump presidency??? You would think the would be welcoming his voters into the fold. Yeah, and all those attacks are for no reason. It's not like he's said anything controversial, or closer to the Democrat positions than Republicans, or been insulting to others in the party or anything like that. Nope. Poor old Donald was just walking along, minding his own business, and out of nowhere all those other Republicans just decided to kick him for no reason.
Trump's other major enemy beyond himself is his own supporters. He is the frontrunner with the most delegates and has won many, many states. Your complaints are irrelevant if this is who the majority is choosing.
I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of the GOP who promised to treat all candidates fairly, but clearly is NOT. That disgusts me. It should disgust you as well. Do you really think the GOP will give the nomination to Cruz in a contested convention? Or Kasich? Sorry. They won't. They are drooling at the chance to put their guy in there. They have no loyalty to Cruz. So to continue down this path of trying to subvert Trump from getting 1237 will only result in Romney 2.0 as the nominee. Be careful what you wish for. You brought up the PACs, etc. How is commenting on that irrelevant? Trump slammed the GOP long before, and much more often than they slammed him. The process is what it is, winner gets the nomination. Usually there's a winner before the convention. If there's not, we are into newish territory. Your prediction that the GOP is going to cheat somehow is based on...what, exactly? Mindreading? Time travel?
You seem to regard any criticism of Trump as somehow deeply unfair. He does not hold traditionally Republican positions. Okay, maybe the GOP should get talked into changing, but why is it so terrible for them to say "Y'know, that's actually not what we believe. And you're still under 50% Donald, and very likely will blow us up in the general election." Are they supposed to applaud that and say "Give us more?" Not many Trump supporters are producing good, logical arguments. They are just gushing, accusing, complaining, emoting. Most people aren't convinced by that. So far your argument is "He's getting lots of votes." That's fine, but Hillary Clinton could make the same claim, and it doesn't convince me to vote for her. Many "never Trump" voters agree with you. But they and you miss the point. There are millions who like what Trump is saying and are fed up with the deceit of the GOP. If the GOP pulls the support out from under Trump so they can install one of their guys a lot of those voters will fell as though the GOP stabbed them in the back again. And while your argument that stating the belief that the GOP is about to pull a fast one is "Mindreading? Time travel?" is very 'cute' it is almost exactly what you would expect from those who intend to deceive and not only doesn't dissuade Trump supporters but rather reaffirms that the fix is in.
Dumping Trump at the convention is the single best way for the GOP to assure the Democrats win. For all the "never Trump" Republicans out there who think "we" are about to pull off a coup and install "our" guy, wink, wink, nudge, nudge, you will be left crying in your beer on election day stabbed in the back by the GOP. I honestly think that the GOP will be fine with that. That is if Hillary is elected they are still little fish in a big pond. But I don't think the rank and file Republican voters will be happy with that. The GOP talking heads are signaling on TV and talk radio everyday. In that process they are intentionally alienating Trump voters, calling them names and questioning their intelligence. Do you really think after you dump their guy they will embrace the name callers? The economic and national security stakes in this election are the highest in history. If we get Hillary or Bernie I think we will at best lose a generation to an economic malaise and at worst... well I hate to think about it.

Again. We didn't start the fire.
You have found the GOPe to be weak-willed. Fair enough. To conclude that they are deceitful is another matter altogether. Calling something "a fix," is an unfair accusation when people are simply playing by the rules in order to elect candidates they like better. Trump supporters are working themselves into a lather where they believe the worst of others and have no ability to reflect on their own candidate and themselves. Most people in flyover country see politicians as sleazy. Most politicians think the solution to this is ads to make them look human and nice OR to demean and dismiss those who disagree. To the politician a win to elect candidates the like better is ALL that matters. But my point is simply that those people in flyover country are neither stupid nor have short memories. It would be SO much wiser for the politicians and lobbyist to attract voters and supporters rather than resort to back room deals or strong arm tactics. I'm not sure they can any more than a leopard can change their spots or become a vegetarian. The political elite in both parties really don't like the common man/woman and they resent this huge effort they must make every two and four years to retain their royalty and privilege.
The right way to do this is not some coup where they steal the nomination but rather win over the voters with a message and a decent candidate. But the GOP has failed in that terribly. Their message on illegal immigration is 180 degrees opposite of that of most of their base. Their decisions on Obamacare and the budget is again exactly the opposite of their base. I am just not sure the GOP can be saved. I think we are looking at a Democrat president next year and because of that a far left Supreme court for a generation which will trash our 1st and 2nd amendment rights. All of this because the GOP can't get behind Cruz or find some way to work with Trump. Seriously? We destroy the country because the GOPe hate Trump and Cruz? I understand those who don't want Trump what I don't understand is the suicide pact that they are all signing. I also understand that the GOP is not controlled or obligated to the rank and file Republicans and that it is their little fiefdom and not ours. But seriously why the vitriol towards the voters, the base? I'm afraid Rush is right (again) and the GOP would rather have Hillary than Trump or Cruz so that they can retain their little club and privileges. The GOPe no longer represents Republicans or America. Whether you like Trump or hate Trump the problem is the GOPe and not Trump (or Cruz).

"I suggest a transgender Muslim "
But one who has travelled ISIS territory, so most likely disabled from the Islamic belief that homosexuals can fly. America Shouldn’t Have an Aristocracy
Oh, I don't know. Perhaps if you folks did have some sort of figurehead monarch (or a president on the Indian constitutional model) your political class might at least have some institutional check on their own overweening personal ambition. McArdle : How many students are in school to improve their minds and how many are there to pass the class?
And if you fear for your grades because of whom you support for President, that very fact reveals the course is of no intellectual value and the professor should be driven out into the open Market. But school is a game for grades, credentials, and the modern university, especially the Humanities and Liberal Arts no longer have any value in intellectual development. I, for one, look forward to the death of the university as the students who want to learn find more modern ways to gain the knowledge and discipline their intellects. Should Same-Sex Marriage Be Taught In Colorado Preschools?
Why? Why on earth? Why should marriage - any kind of marriage for that matter - need to be taught to preschoolers at all? They're just little kids, for God's sake. Here you go Barrister:
https://ethosofengagementcom.wordpress.com Fracking...proper term is hydraulic fracturing
So the technology that moved the USA into near self-sufficiency re oil production is now the bad guy. Those who are filling their SUV's at half the cost of a few years ago should be praising hydraulic fracturing, not demonizing it. Oh, my mistake, that doesn't fit the narrative. re Bruce Walker: Washington Fails at Everything
A well written piece by Bruce though I believe it to be mistitled. I concur with him but he is raging against the gale. Is it perhaps a privilege to be raped by a black? Regardless, she's ENCOURAGING RAPE CULTURE.
re China reverts to ‘grid management’ to monitor citizens’ lives
Behind a paywall. The US is way ahead on using the power system to monitor and control its citizens.
The initiative is called "Smart Meters." The public rationale is that it allows "demand management." That is, it allows the government to control how much and when you use your appliances, heating, and air conditioning. This is a big help in avoiding embarrassing blackouts when the renewable energy scam doesn't deliver. One upside is it reduces dog bites - they can read your electric meter remotely now and even cut off your power without sending someone out to your house. China is doing a big marketing push in smaller countries so the Chinese will have that control over the citizens of other countries. RE anti vaxxers
