We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Dems secret plans: race-based campaign against Steele in Maryland. Nice plan, guys. But it takes a little subtlety to run a racist campaign when you desperately need all black voters on your Dem plantation.
Abdul Rahman killed in Pakistan. One by one, they are going down. Confed. Yank
Danger: Coke has fizz. Michigan court allows lawsuit to proceed by woman who had fizzy Coke spray in her eye. Coke failed to warn that Coke was fizzy. h/t, Overlawyered. Note to scam artists and their lawyers: Carbonated beverages have fizz. Including beer. That's why you buy them: fizz is fun.
Do not look at these images of late-term abortions in Conservative Life. I mean it. Nor can I imagine a physician who would do this.
Fitzgerald gives false witness to New York Times. Charges will not be pressed against him.
Newsweek warns: Strong economy may lead to weak economy. Hmmm. I don't recall such articles when Clinton was President. Ace.
They were horrible pictures, but better to be horrified if it makes you fight evil. Think, for example, of the "Never again" impact of those ghastly pictures of skeletal Nazi concentration camp survivors or of piles of corpses or bones of Khmer Rouge victims--if people are not disturbed to the point of misery and outrage, they may not work to prevent such things in future.
Most of us are such miserably self-centered sinners that we can't be moved to do the right thing by mere abstractions.
I worship God because I cannot forget that the man Jesus was beaten to a pulp and nailed to a cross for me. Would I love an abstract Deity as dearly? I think not.
I love the children I delivered with blood and agony, all swiftly replaced by that dazed happiness of loving God's gifts to us.
