We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Full-blown sociopaths are different from you and me, but there is a grey zone of grifters, con artists, manipulators, users, habitual liars, cheaters, hucksters, tricksters, and politicians who can seem to be people who aspire to live lives of integrity, but do not.
I saw Frank Abnagle on an IBM superbowl commercial yesterday. When the computer mentioned him as a con man, he said that was a long time ago. As I understand he made restitution to all or most of his victims. But then he never tried to fake being a soldier. truly disgraceful.
Thanks for the post. That's a fascinating read. Not exactly Paul Newman from The Sting. He seems to get his con game from complete madness, rather than from evil or even meanness. Just imagine what that guy could have achieved if he went legit.
I bet the prison tats are going to make his act a lot harder to pull off when he finally gets out next time.
For an interesting read look up Dion Rich. He doesn't really qualify as a con man, in my opinion. But, he sneaked into every super bowl through 2002 except one. A lot of other things, too. It's amazing what one can do if he just acts like he knows what he's doing.
