Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

I love that ephemeral NY website. I wonder if there are other historical websites for other parts of the country.
"Cologne Imam: Girls Were Raped Because They Were Half Naked And Wore Perfume"
And German authorities have also come out advising women to dress more modestly. If this weren't so serious an issue (attacks on women by bands of young feral men), the inherent contradictions of the "progressive" mindset might be the basis of much hilarity. Not long ago, anybody who quipped that women who were raped were "asking for it" would have been lambasted by the same sort of people who are now recommending women shouldn't invite attention by their dress. Pat Condell has a good video on this topic (except for the gratuitous swipe at the settlers of the New World): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIfMAP4Q1yk
"The average conservative doesn't care about free markets"
It 'might' be a free market but it is surely a race to the bottom for the U.S. Make iphones and Nikes in China for pennies and sell them in the U.S. at a 500% markup is not good for the U.S. workers. Our world is predatory and the U.S. acts like a babe in the woods. Not by accident, many business and political leaders are making millions on the backs of U.S. workers. Our trade needs to be revised. If you want to see jobs and the economy go into hyperdrive end income taxes on U.S. business. To replace the loss in income place a tax on all imports of 20%. Not too bad when you think about it since they can make those products for 1/4th what it would cost in this country. They could still make the product in China and sell it here for huge profits. Require that countries that export goods to us also import goods from us. Of course you can't "make" them do this so you simply limit what they can export to us. To be fair a 2:1 ratio would be a fair starting point. That is if china imports $1 million in goods from us they can export no more than $2 million in goods to us. More than fair. And after all why wouldn't any country want to be a fair citizen of the world. Certainly China and other countries don't want to be seen as taking advantage of our good will. Fairness requires that the 'trade' with us not dump products into our markets. Three simple changes and our economy would take off like a rocket. It's always amusing to see how commonly your flowery opinions lack real basis in fact. Do you have an inkling how such a trade imbalance can occur? And no, the proverbial (and mythical) ten-cents-a-day Chinese worker isn't that thing any more than the mythical tax-free US corporation - where it to come to pass when in effect it already has - would be the cure.
Based on your analysis, you're a progressive, a moniker I'm sure you entirely reject. Pragmatic not progressive. Your faux amusement or anger is all about a discussion long ago when your favorite biases were deflated. I'm sorry, that you can't get over it.
You're funny. When your egotism hits the inevitable wall of facts, reel out some misdirection and never address anything specific put to you. That takes real hubris.
So, tell us more about the ten cent Chinese worker and the victimhood of the American tax-dodging corporation. I could care less what a Chinese worker makes, I didn't bring it up and do not understand why you did.
Give me your best example of an American company dodging taxes. By the way, it is in fact the CEO's job to pay less taxes. I can assure you that when we do our taxes we try to pay as little as possible. IMHO paying no more taxes than you have to is a good thing and structuring your personal and business activities with an eye to minimize taxes makes good sense.

You're demanding that the latest in your series of self-indulgent opinion broadcasts be serviced by correction? But I'm perfectly happy letting unique assertions on reality stand there as-is, Windy. They're entertaining.
For example, the notion that tax-dodging corporations be incentivized to not pay them from here instead of from abroad by an otherwise completely helpless cabal of policy-writers. Delicious. Jeenyus. And that brilliance in service of the ostensibly conservative myth that if it's an American company all protections are needed in the magically free-market-econ corporate environment oppressed by Chinese slaves, and if it's the American individual, in exchange for his papers he need demonstrate fealty supporting such frauds. "Skin in the game", I believe it's called. Take your tin cup and get in line to daily reenter Wall St. The Founders would have so approved.

Fairy Tales- Very poor article. Far too many holes in the story. Surely if these tales existed in the Bronze age, simply pointing to them would be a first step, yet some scholars seem to doubt their existence?
And this leads to many other questions of what makes a story unique? Or even "good"? Ultimately, this leads to the conclusion that this is just saying "people have had similar ideas." Or put another way, there's nothing new under the sun. I do however wonder if this is yet another attack on W. Civ. An effort to undermine the richness that W. Civ has contributed to the world. "Hillary campaign’s response to latest email revelations reveals desperation"
The term special access program (SAP) is creating considerable confusion in the media, largely out of ignorance. As an example, Charles Krauthammer stated: "this is worse than what Snowden did because he didn’t have access to SAP". Everything Snowden downloaded from the NSA was SAP. SAP material is not a level "above top secret". It is simply a more exclusive, compartmented category of information (it need not even be TOP SECRET; SAP exists at the SECRET level too. It is particularly sensitive information though and is compartmentalized on a need-to-know basis largely to protect sources and collection methods. When I think of what could - and did - happen to personnel who caused even the most minor breaches over special access material during my days in the Canadian military (Canada being part of the Four/Five Eyes intelligence community), it really annoys me that a potential "POTUS" could be so thoughtless - and might well get away with it too! Same here.
But I'll be generous and give her, say, only one day's incarceration for each email of 'confidential' classification or above that passed through her server. How many decades do you think she'd be going away for? re Harry Reid Wants to Use $600K of Unspent Campaign Funds for Retirement
Yes, his actions make one seethe, but I understand why he is stealing the money. Who would dare prosecute him? Not the Justice Dept. The GOP won't say anything. Too scared for some reason. OTOH, maybe there is a smidgeon of legality to it. Reid made his fortune staying just inside the law in his business dealings. Meals -
Why is it everything seems to be the fault of something else and not the person. The days of personal responsibility are gone for ever. ..unless the Government decides to holds you personally responsible for something they don't like. Such as, oh, I don't know....saying things about certain people who's cultures are 500-years behind yours. The other day, MF had a link to a doom and gloom piece on electoral demographics.
The good news is we are not there yet. From the article: Demographic doom is just around the corner for the Republican Party. Unless it demonstrates compassion for illegal immigrants, it has no future. Just ask a Democrat. But even the deep thinkers of the left will concede that we're not quite there yet. If you want to see for yourself, here's a nifty gadget by Aaron Bycoffe and David Wasserman of 538.com. A small adjustment of the non-college-educated white (NCW) portion of the vote, along with very minor changes in the other segments, can easily get you to 270 electoral votes. So the saner Democrats know the party has a real – albeit short-term – problem with NCWs and should do something about it. In four years, or eight at the most, these people can be discarded and ignored, but for the time being, they're still important. Mildly pro-gun Bernie Sanders, of all people, has put such a scare in her that she's now anointed herself the Queen of the Gun Gestapo and the arch-enemy of the fiendish NRA. Message to Hillary: this doesn't work in western Pennsylvania. She may not realize this, but there are quite a few single-issue voters in those parts, and their issue is the Second Amendment. Democrats and Republicans. Regular and occasional voters. She's given the NRA all the ammunition it needs, and it's going to pull the trigger. These NCWs in the Midwest are the key to a Republican victory. They're more opposed to immigration than any group in the country, so the decision by Hillary to get to the left of Obama on amnesty is going to kill her in this group. This issue alone would damn her in this demographic. http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2016/01/hillary_in_a_hole_and_digging_hard.html Pakistanis raising money for Shrillary Rotten in Texas
From the article: The former secretary of state made a fundraising stop in Beaumont, Texas Wednesday Clinton was in West Beaumont to attend a fundraiser organized by Pakistani businessman Tahir Javed. The news station reports the campaign collected about $500,000, “making it one of the top five private fundraisers Clinton has had in this country.” “Many of the Pakistanis at the event were pleased with Clinton’s vocal support of the Muslim religion,” 12 News Now reports. “Talking about Muslims and favoring Muslims, so I really appreciate her whatever effort she is making against Islamaphobia, so I really think she needs to be the next President of the United States,” Aisha Zahid says. http://www.theamericanmirror.com/video-six-people-greet-hillary-in-texas-and-she-ignored-them/ There were only six people waiting for her when she landed at airport for this fundraiser.
I might be true that the Republican Party will lose the demographics "Unless it demonstrates compassion for illegal immigrant". The problem is that they would have to emulate the Democrat party who have abandoned the constitution and embraced socialism. They would have to tax the citizens to provide 'free stuff' for the illegals. When all is said and done that is exactly what this is all about. The Democrats WANT those votes and will tax and spend as much as they can get away with to get those votes.
I predict two things related to this issue and they are both grim: First if the GOPe has their way we will become a three political party country (perhaps four). Second if the Democrats continue 'demonstrate compassion' by taxing the meddle class into poverty and turning the country into a third world country we will have a civil war. I mean a fighting in the street tens of thousands killed civil war. Europe is going to see this soon and if we are unable to turn this Democrat caused disaster around we will have it here. For some reason our politicians are tone deaf or naive. A lot of Americans are angry and the worst hasn't even happened yet. It will get worse and there will be a breaking point. |
