We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
"I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you."
Boy that brings back memories. That's one of the phrases used by Stefan Riesenfeld of Boalt Hall law school at Berkeley. Students were terrified of him. I had him for first year property law in the Seventies, and the first day of class he had a woman in tears because she hadn't read the materials and didn't know the difference between a fee simple absolute, a fee simple determinable, a fee simple subject to a condition subsequent, and a fee simple subject to an executory limitation. But I have to say, he's the one professor where, to this day, I remember everything he taught in that class.
That's the wonderful thing, isn't it, Bird Dog. Our Lord understands. Thus Christ's journey into history. As Cowper, in his wonderful poem on God's "mysterious ways," says, "God is his own interpreter, and he will make it plain." Merry Christmas to you and your family. And Happy New Year! And one thing more; thanks for showing the greatest cigarette ad ever!
