We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

View from the Bridge

On our sailing ship in November, there was an Open Bridge policy. You could go there any time -24 hrs/day - and hang out and ask questions about the sail-handling, ship-handling, collision-avoidance, and general navigation. Always one mate and one watchman on duty, along with the 15-minute buzzer-button to prevent on-watch sleep.

Sailboats have bridges? Never thought about it much, but can't recall ever hearing the term applied to sailboats.

I'm sure that cruise was great, but calling that ship a 'sailing' ship is a stretch.

The sails do little or nothing to actually propel the boat.
The internet says they add 3 knots in a stiff wind...

Sailboats have the 'right of way' as I remember my Father saying in San Francisco Bay.

When they're under sail and not propelled by machinery, yes.
