Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

I have absolutely NO sympathy for anyone who takes on massive amounts of debt or the parents who help pay for college for kids who have never held a job or had any responsibility before and fall for the "you need a college ed if you are going to get anywhere and if you don't go now [right out of high school] you'll never go." Let me guess: "Wet Nurse"? Re: Race hoaxes
It's bad enough that people do this in the first place, but what is worse is that they don't seem to have lost any credibility. In addition, why would anybody take seriously the concept of 'white privilege' when we keep hearing of white people who want to be (i.e. identify as) black? The original concept of privilege was more reasonable - that different groups have advantages and disadvantages in different situations. Best example: Barry Soetoro of Hawaii by way of Indonesia was not going to be elected anything; Barack Obama had some advantages being black, being Ivy League. There are some situations in which being white causes folks to respond to you better; likewise being a woman, or being middle-aged. Yet each of those can be a disadvantage elsewhere.
An intelligent give-and-take discussion about that would be fine. But that ship sailed years ago. Hamilton College Students’ List of Demands
The cultural appropriation of so-called "jazz" music must cease. Musicians of color must not play the trumpet, an instrument created by white oppressors. Yes, non-whites should stop playing white man's sports like football, baseball, and basketball. They should stop eating hamburgers and other whiteman food. It offends me that they are not showing the proper respect for them!
QUOTE: The Greatest Scientific Fraud Of All Time -- Part IX That's funny. For evidence, they use a chart that shows a clear warming trend. http://static1.squarespace.com/static/503a5bade4b0b543ed240317/t/565ddef0e4b0802c1adca7b4/ Sure it does. And we don 't believe it. Bandwagon appeal is not appealing.
Thats just dumb.
In your mind, what is the chart supposed to look like..a flat line? From 1979 to 1989 the trend is up....from 1989 to present the trend is down. Cherry pick much? But look back farther. What is the trend if you start in the 1930's to present? Dale: From 1979 to 1989 the trend is up
UAH trend +0.014°C/decade Dale: from 1989 to present the trend is down UAH trend +0.172°C/decade Dale: I meant 1998. Dale: IFrom 1979 to 1998 the trend is up UAH trend +0.042°C/decade Dale: from 1998 to present the trend is down UAH trend +0.070°C/decade Dale: Cherry pick much? Choosing 1998, which was a record El Niño would be cherry-picking. Dale: What is the trend if you start in the 1930's to present? UAH starts in 1979. The trend from then to present is +0.139°C/decade. I know it's fun for you to keep replying in this way, but I don't think you have ever replied to my oft-repeated objection.
Slight warming since the end of the Little Ice Age. Well, sure. Ambiguous if any is anthropogenic, but let us grant that some might be. But no evidence of impending catastrophe. Not even much evidence of significant inconvenience. I don't recall you granting the slightest chance that any claims of alarmists might be overblown, even a tad. You may think so, but you never say so. Assistant Village Idiot: Ambiguous if any is anthropogenic, but let us grant that some might be.
Most climate scientists disagree, of course. Again, it's projected warming that is of concern. Assistant Village Idiot: But no evidence of impending catastrophe. Warming of more than 2°C is expected to cause significant disruption of ecosystems, agriculture, and human settlement. Assistant Village Idiot: I don't recall you granting the slightest chance that any claims of alarmists might be overblown, even a tad. Some claims about the changing climate are clearly overblown. Climate change won't mean the end of humanity. Climate change is not the greatest threat to civilization ever seen. Humans will adapt. However, unchecked warming will cause extensive human suffering, result in large costs for mitigation, lead to human migration, social disruption and the accompanying political friction, and there will be a permanent loss of humanity's shared natural inheritance. It's like a fire alarm. You might say the dire warnings are exaggerated, but that's because you put out the fire. Climate change is a very difficult problem because it will occur very slowly, the effects are diffuse, political structures aren't compelled to act, and markets can't account for the costs.

You play with numbers. Draw a line on the chart you point to. Start in 1979 and stop at 1998. Is that line up or down?
Draw a line from 1998 to 2015. Is that line sloped up or down. You didn't answer my first question. What do you think the graph should look like?...if the present temperature is somehow "wrong", what is the temperature supposed to be..what is the "right" temperature for the Earth?? Dale: You play with numbers.
No. You made a false claim about the UAH trend. You might have been on more solid ground if you had said there was no significant warming since 1998. The trend is +0.070°C/decade for that period, ±0.199°C/decade (2σ). That means it is more likely than not that the temperature has increased, but not at the 2σ confident level. Dale: Draw a line from 1998 to 2015. Is that line sloped up or down. That's not how you determine a linear trend, which is usually done by least-squares. Dale: What do you think the graph should look like? Data is data. It is what it is. Dale: if the present temperature is somehow "wrong", what is the temperature supposed to be..what is the "right" temperature for the Earth?? For the Earth? The Earth is a rock in space, and doesn't really care. For humans? Stability is most conducive to human civilization. The problem isn't current warming, but projected warming. Increased warming will cause significant disruption and costs.

You're kind of a waste of time. True believers always are.
"Data is data"...so the 97% claim is garbage? The data doesn't support it. So you're saying that the "hockey stick" with it's drastic upward slope is deceptive? We can agree an that.

San Bernardino Shootings
I don't get it. That was a Gun Free Zone. Why were there guns in a Gun Free Zone? We must pass another law, making it a Really Gun Free Zone I Mean It This Time. Also, take away every last gun and poptart. ot: New US ISIS Czar dropped from 0bama election team for being too pro terrorist
From the column: "Obama's new ISIS czar disses Israel, snuggled with Hamas, defended Assad, and thought Obama was too hawkish on Iran. In 2008, Malley was booted from the Obama election committee when it was discovered that he had met with Hamas members. Although removed from the public stage, Malley was still one of Obama’s most trusted advisers on Middle East issues. In 2013, Malley predicted that Hamas and Fatah would unite so that they could bargain effectively against Israel." http://www.jewishpress.com/news/breaking-news/new-us-isis-czar-was-bumped-from-obama-election-team-as-too-pro-terrorist/2015/12/02/ Re: The San Bernardino shooting/terrorist attack.
The Democrats wasted no time in calling for gun control. There is a lesson from history here. After the 1996 mass shooting in Australia the left moved quickly to push through a massive gun control/confiscation. The left believes that you should never let a crisis go to waste and that worked quite well in Australia. But American has that pesky 2nd amendment and unlike Australia pushing through a quick and dirty gun registration/confiscation law is not so easy. Obama and his minions in congress want to take away our right to own and bear arms and he may well try to do it by presidential decree. If we still had a Democrat congress they would simply ‘deem’ it legal. A stacked Supreme Court would then most likely find unwritten support for the new ‘law’ in the constitution right next to the right to kill babies. Why is the left so intent on confiscatory gun control? It certainly is not about the lives lost because more lives are lost to guns on a long weekend in Chicago than in the San Bernardino terrorist attack. Chicago has gun control but amazingly it seems criminals don’t obey those laws and still acquire guns. So why is the left so invested in gun control? I think the left intends to flood the country with immigrants who they know will vote for Democrats. I think that the left knows that as we slouch towards 3rd world Marxism that many Americans will wake up to what has happened and resist this fundamental changing of America. Or maybe another way of putting it would be that with an armed populace the left cannot rush headlong into the ‘Marxist NWO’ and they are running out of patience. After all Russia confiscated guns before forcing communism on their people and Germany confiscated guns before forcing Nazism onto the Germans. The left has historical precedent that they cannot ignore; you cannot enslave an armed free people. The leftist road to serfdom is coming to it’s destination and that pesky 2nd amendment must go. There is an irony in the San Bernardino terrorist attack. In the early minutes the word was that it was three white men. The MSM and Democrats were salivating (and tweeting things they can’t take back). How lucky was this, another mass shooting and by white men. The left was silly with glee. But wait, but wait. It turned out to be two Muslims. And worse one of them was a Muslim ‘woman or child’ immigrant that Obama told us we were bigots to be afraid of. Even Obama’s last minute fallback position that ‘maybe’ it was just workplace violence fell apart when the facts began to come out. Clearly this was preplanned and just as clearly it was terrorism. What’s a lefty gun grabber to do??? What I love is all the Democrat memes are now colliding with each other.
Meme number one--mass violence is caused by climate change. (Presidential favorite #1.) Give me a break. Meme number two. This was workplace violence. Yeah. Meme number three. This is what happens if you don't have gun control. (Presidential favorite #3). Yeah, like "gun control" would change a situation where the killers just happen to have AK-74's, combat assault gear and pipe bombs. Who went in and slaughtered a bunch of innocent people who couldn't defend themselves because they were unarmed. (Actually, doesn't this show that we should be arming all citizens in the U.S., or at least giving them the opportunity to be armed, in order to protect themselves, their neighbors and their country?--Let's become like Switzerland, where every man has an assault rifle stored in the house, courtesy of the Swiss government, and knows how to use it.) Meme number 4. This type of mass violence only happens in the U.S., because of an American conservative-caused culture of violence and hate. (Presidential favorite #2.) Hmm, we had an attack by people with automatic weapons who seemed to have some tenuous connection with something called Islam. Did that happen anywhere else recently? Meme number 5. We need to ban "assault rifles" (in leftist parlance, any gun that fires more than one bullet) because they are used by "white loners" and "right-wing haters" to kill people. Oops, these folks had real AK-74 assault weapons, but they don't fit the "white loner" profile. So instead of calling them "assault rifles" or "AK-74s," we had better sanitize that to "long guns." Meme number 6. We don't have to worry about Muslim immigrants and "refugees." Hey, sounds like Killer #2 was allowed to immigrate from Saudi Arabia, no problem. Meme number 7. We show our bigotry by being opposed to poor little defenseless Muslim women and children coming to our country. You mean like Killer #2? Meme number 8. We have no right to be suspicious about Muslims who were born in America or who have become American citizens. They're Americans just like us. Yeah, Killer #1 was a good All-American boy. Meme number 9. What's happening has nothing to do with Islam. It is a religion of peace. Yeah right. The fact that these latest folks had Muslim names and background was pure coincidence. We are certain that this incident of workplace violence was directly caused by global warming marginalizing Muslims and the street corner availability of machine guns. Such incidents will continue until the colonial mindset of cis-privilege can be acknowledged, apologized for and reeducated. We believe that no reasonable person needs an AK-747 or any other salt rifle and that gun control and climate change are closely connected.
Well at least some people are finally wising up. Notice from Ulster County Sheriff's Office (upstate New York?):
"December 3, 2015 ATTENTION LICENSED HANDGUN OWNERS In light of recent events that have occurred in the United States and around the world I want to encourage citizens of Ulster County who are licensed to carry a firearm to PLEASE DO SO. I urge you to responsibly take advantage of your legal right to carry a firearm. To ensure the safety of yourself and others, make sure you are comfortable and proficient with your weapon, and knowledgeable of the laws in New York State with regards to carrying a weapon and when it is legal to use it. I also want to remind all Police/Peace Officers both active duty and retired to please carry a weapon whenever you leave your house. We are the thin blue line that is entrusted in keeping this country safe, and we must be prepared to act at any given moment. Thank you, Paul J. Van Blarcum Ulster County Sheriff https://www.facebook.com/UlsterSheriff/ The MSM would have you believe that all mass shootings are committed by home grown white men.
"http://www.truthrevolt.org/commentary/coulter-san-bernardino-shooters-unknown-here-are-some-past-mass-shooters" "The media are tickled pink whenever they have a white perpetrator because it happens so rarely in a country that is majority white." I suspect Ann Coulter is on to something here. For some reason white privilege doesn't extend to having attacks on whites by minorities being reported by the MSM. As soon as it became obvious that the San Bernardino shooting was committed by Muslims the MSM began cautioning everyone not to jump to conclusions. Too late, half of the Democrat politicians had already broken their legs jumping so far to conclusions. Now Cair is advising us to be careful to not cause a backlash against Muslims. It bothers me that Cair (who are undoubtedly a terrorist organization) and our Democrat politicians so often find themselves in bed together. Ethanol certainly doesn't work in my car. Since the availability of ethanol-free premium fuel was restored in my area, I no longer am suffering from the need to re-build my carbourator once or twice a year. This does mean that I need to pay a premium for higher octane fuel than i really need, but it turns out that the higher energy content of the ethanol-free fuel more than makes up for the cost, as I can go 20% farther per fill-up.
Even at current low prices the 30-cent markup for hi-test is much less than 20%. What I find most maddening about this mandate is that it is actually counterproductive for the purpose of reducing carbon emissions. The expected market-led development of reliable cellulosic-ethanol production methods once 10% of the fuel market was looking for ethanol never materialized, so we are still using lots of energy to distill the stuff, driving up the cost of food and fuel as we turn cropland over to fuel crops, using more land, more fertilizer, more tractor fuel, and killing more aquatic life from runoff, while ending up with nearly doubled greenhouse-gas emissions once indirect effects on land-use and food substitutions are accounted for. The Little Bear Schwarz picture needs a warning. I almost lost my breakfast.
