Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Firewood

The exercise and satisfaction in producing your own firewood. 


Plenty of readers know how to do that. Too late to collect fresh firewood for this winter, but it's always the right time to collect wood for next year.


Photo is a nice woodshed from Salt Water New England.


It's scenic, but too far from the house for my taste.

I see a lot of people stacking firewood up against their house.

Probably not a good idea.( Termites. )

Also something insurance companies don't like.

I haven't cut any firewood for the Winter yet. I just cut down dead trees. I don't need to let the wood dry out.

We're seriously urban, but living in a neighbourhood that's undergoing "renewal" as in tear down the older bungalows and put up mini-mansions. Gathering firewood here is mainly going from waste bin to waste bin (with permission) and getting the scrag ends of wood left over from construction. Not so good as chopping down real trees, but the stuff burns well.
