Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

QUOTE: Remember This Guy’ Pic: Last Year With ISIS, This Year A ‘Refugee’… No. That's Laith Al Saleh, a commander in the "Free Syrian Army, the moderate, Western-backed forces opposing President Bashar Assad — but also fighting the Islamic State group and the Al-Qaeda affiliated Nusra Front." http://news.yahoo.com/syrian-rebel-leader-seeks-europe-fleeing-govt-jihadis-163636165.html But it does go to show how the right wing echo chamber works. Yes. Maggie's Farm is more open to discussion than many "conservative" blogs, and we welcome the opportunity to post. We especially enjoy the free ads for Dylan, which is what drew us to the blog in the first place.
It's understandable that you can't vet every link in detail, especially when posting a large number of items for discussion. However, in many such cases, it's pretty obvious there's something missing from the linked story. In other words, how do we know to look further? Lucky guess? We're not trying to discourage the linkfest, but just making an observation. Oh yeah! "Laith Al Saleh" The 2nd "grand Poobah" of the "good guys". But... why is he running away? Besides now that he has been outed will Hugh Hewitt still be able to ask Trump if he knows him at the next debate/show trial?
I am not worried about the many "immigrants/refugees/spies/freedom fighters" infiltrating into Europe. I feel confident that the European leaders are getting mug shots, finger prints, DNA and background data on all of them. They wouldn't be so stupid to just let them in without being able to know who they are and to track them, right? Yes, the Free Syrian Army is perhaps the most egregious example of Western failure regarding Syria.
If we had any bloody-minded determination at all, we'd be backing the FRA (since we've decided that supporting Assad would be unpalatable and the Islamists out of the question). Back when the revolt broke out, we all thought Assad would soon be gone and the newly liberated Syrians would be sipping low-fat lattes at the Damascus Starbucks in no time while checking their Twitter accounts. Of course, actively supporting the overthrow of Assad would demand the expenditure of real blood and treasure - and some sabre-rattling diplomacy against the Russians et al. Forget that. Far better to engage in sanctimonious pieties rather than actually do something about anything. Too difficult and unpredictable. See you at Starbucks! In regards to divorce, same-sex marriage and relationships, this is from a prescient author in 1886:
QUOTE: Therefore, without prejudice against any one proposed reform, it is impossible not to end, if not with the deduction, at least with the suggestion - that (for some reason which we will not now attempt to fathom) the three institutions - of private property, of marriage, and of personal liberty from State control - are so inseparably bound together that neither one may fall without the other two. Please come home, all is forgiven. RE: Why I quit teaching
work longer hours, you lazy asshat. Going off on a tangent, your "work longer hours, you lazy asshat" suddenly made me think of a French Army officer I worked with in the Balkans.
At the time, the French government was apparently in the process of introducing a 35-hour [!] work week for the civil service. My French Army friend said there was a joke making the rounds of the barracks: Q: Why are all the civil servants so upset about the new 35-hour working week? A: They don't think it's fair they have to work an extra five hours a week. The quip on Hilary reminds me of my wife, who is slowly but inexorably slipping into dementia.
Easy to laugh at Hils but not so funny when it's across the breakfast table. Well, to counter-balance all the woe I can report that my uncle Louie, we all called him "Letsgo" Lozko was inducted posthumously into the Bantam Chicken Hall of Fame and I was fortunate enough to accept on his behalf in Blue Island Illinois. I was not allowed to mention his work with the OSS involving the Chicken Talkers. RE, Europe and Muslims: There are a LOT of muslims there, likely knowing a guy who knows a guy who can supply pistols, rifles, and ammo, while the law-abiding citizens don't. So while the Euros may well be incensed, inflamed and ready to take them on, I ask "With what?"
Sam, we have the same problem down around my place, thirty miles from the border.
To mangle an aphorism, they are terrorists in refugees' clothing. they blend in with the crowd, crummy clothes, one boot and one shoe, but rest assured they know where they're going. They disappear quickly and make their way to pre-arranged locations where they lose the aliens look and study the maps. Cells are in place. |
